The Class 1 discussion thread

My thought on keeping the same course was only if it was going to be run as a Novice or beginner class. It would keep the newbs from being intimidated by competing against upper level guys, and limit the man-power need for course building and judging.

I definitely see the motivation. Our club isn't one of the biggest however so unless we had some of the seasoned guys competiting then the newbies wouldn't have anyone to run with. Larger clubs wouldn't have this problem possibly.

The manpower and time are the biggest factors though. Although this would also be a great class for people to learn how to judge and scorekeep.

Course design has been a big issue in Nor-cal. People have been talking about forever. The courses are just too ridiculous. Novice courses would NEED to be built. IMO insane courses have driven away more people than any other reason. Hell, it's why I stopped competing.

We were crawling way before Axial had a rig out.

that was my point.. How can somthing that has only been out for roughly 2 years be considered nostalgic.. While I have only been crawling for a relatively short time, I have my roots in the Clodbuster (first gen) Ultima and hornet worls.. those are nostalgic to me

we have had the same problem with course design... either you build it so the new guys can compete and then the old guys get bored or you build it for the old guys and the newbs all get 40's. Having a totally separate "class 1" just might help the growth of rc crawling at comps more than anything. When it comes down to it, you could even have scalers being competitive.

Don't get caught up on the thread title. Call it Class 1 if that is what is bothering you :)

Man, you guys know how to talk the fun right out of an idea:mrgreen:

Exactly, main reason I burned out, to many rules, to much being "serious", spend more money, buy newer stuff.

Personally, the most fun I ever had crawling was w/ my "Eritex" hand cut XL4 TLT rig.

IF I ever crawl again, it will be will something simple like Franky Rizzo is talking about.

Our club was facing the same problem. Newer competitors and the less competitive drivers were becoming discouraged as the majority of the field were only getting past 3 or 4 gates, and only a few top drivers were even close to finishing the courses.

We discussed it and now have an amateur and pro class. We both run essentially the same course, except that the two classes have a couple splits in which the pros have one line and he amateurs use an easier set of gates...usually 2 or 3 per course. The pro class drivers are the only who's series goes toward nomination for nationals (or worlds) etc. It has worked out pretty well for us.

we had the same issues with our club, so what we will generally do to try to make everyone happy is to have a Bonus line on a really tough gate, plus leave an easier line through the gate. We still have comps where 1 or 2 gates will cause a huge 'traffic jam', causing a course to take hours to get everyone through. Everyone in the club understands that we are trying to make things as competitive and fun as they can be for everyone, so some days the MOA guys aren't as challanged as they would like to be, but the new guys don't get so overwhelmed they won't want to come back.

I think communication within your club is a great way to understand what everyone wants/expects to get out of the comp day.

So what are you doing with your time these day if your not crawling? SC? Oh and how does one keep there sponsors when they aren't competing?:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Looks like we're just gonna talk it to death

You can't hammer out rules in an open forum like this, so yes it would be talked to death here. What you can do is show the thread to your local club and discuss what you want to apply to your area.

IF you thought that a concensus was going to be reached your bat shit crazy

I run with a club that does something along the lines of this. Its a basic scale style class they call Sportsman.

No digs or 3rd channels, 2S lipo or 6cell nihm only (frame mounted), lexan or hardbodies, frame longer then wheelbase, 2.2 or 1.9 tire is your choice but 6" max tire size.

We got a 2.2 tire leading it and a 1.9 tire trailing in second so its not really even an advantage there.

the courses arnt overly challenging and pretty much any rig can do them. the class was started bascially to do what alot are talking about in here. bring the fun on, grow attendance and make the day enjoyable.

I enjoy the class becasue it breaks the day up a bit and i get more course time between that and my full 2.2 comp rig. i thought it was a great idea when the club mentioned and have seen some new faces since the season started.

So you quit crawling?

I hope you let all your sponsors know. It seems quite selfish to keep them while you are no longer an active participant or competitive when they could give your spot to someone that actually goes out & proforms & represent them.

Love,
