r/c crawlin' heaven...
I have found my hidden stash of Blue Mosters and have read some of the posts, not all, but what I have read is disturbing.

The 2009 Proline World Championships was organized and ran by two men; Jake Hollenbeck and myself, Brian Parker. The responsibilty of the events success or failure falls on us. My shoulders are broad enough to handle all the constructive criticism, driver dissapointments, lack of event organazation and the few compliments posted. I tell people all the time that I only shine because of the efforts of the volunteers and the countless hours that Jake Hallenbeck spends making sure all the non glamorous comp stuff is delt with leading up to an event. i.e. portapotties, insurance, sponsors, driver packets, trophies, ect.

Punctuality has never been my strong point, with that said, the LCQ drivers meeting did not start on time. I will not start a comp until all cousres are ready for the days comp; at this large of a venue, that was an unprofessional move on my part and for that I apologize to the sponsors again.

The decision made to allow the Supers standings remain was mine and I would have made the same call no matter who was involved. I based the decsion on what information I had. I failed my judges by not covering every possible scenerio that might happen during the compitition. For the lack of adequate judges meeting, I apologize to all the judges. We, the judges, rebounded and the rest of the 2009 Poline World Championships ran well.

The judges at the 2009 Proline World Championships were top notch! They worked hard and remained professional all day. The hailed from different clubs and each judge has vast experience in r/c crawling, but judges are human. I always say, take the judging out of it. Meaning, call your own penalties and run clean. If you rely on a judge making your calls and you get a bad call, at the end of your run, thank the judge and good luck on the next course. Judges are human and we are gonna make mistakes.

I have arm chaired quaterbacked this event, a lot, and what I have learned I will apply. We are a growing sport/hobby, as we grow the grey areas that we encounter will be replaced with black or white.

I have no problems with speaking to anyone face to face and have apologized to them in person already. I feel that an apology needs to be made in this forum, as well.

I am sorry.

What we do as a r/c rock crawling family in the next few months, needs to set a tone to the World. We can learn from this and move foward, but the negativity and hurtfullness is being read by all. I do not want manufactures to think that they cannot invest in our sport/hobby. I do not want "novice" drivers to read the negativity and think that we are not a forgiving family. And last, remember that even though some compititors are more intense than others or are more contraversial than most, King Bling does have a wife that loves him, a daughter that admires him, and I always give props when props are do: I would not be the course designer, driver, or in the position to host big events without him.

Thank you all for watching the 2009 Proline World Championships on RCC TV. We and I'm speaking for everyone envolved, are deeply honored to have brought this event to you in the comforts of your home. The event had great driving, drama, super heros and side kicks, but best of all, this event brought together old friends, made new friends, and I wish all of you the best in the next season of r/c rockcrawlin.

"DO WORK, DRIVERS"

The only thing that I see a problem with was the fact that someone ran an illegal body. Should have been a DNS or the body should have been replaced with one that was in spec.

As far as the rest of the comp, I had a great time. "thumbsup"

very good very well said drivinmf, i have read the rules over 3 times today and with what I saw on RCCTV there were a few illegal moves, like when a Guys wheel fell off and he wasnt called for a rule infraction and still wasnt called after another one fell off, Rules clearly state 4 wheels!! Its is as always "to err is human" It was the judges call, mistakes were made and the old GRAY area reared its ugly head. If the judges allowed him to run then why is he such a a**. Everyone that was there had traveled and busted thier butts to be there and would have run the same body if the judges said ok. Some say it was intentional some say not, The part that concerns myself is the negativity that it is bringin into the sport, I have been in the R/C world longer than some of theses guys are old and this is usually the start of the end. I ask that the big wigs/ moderaters kill this and let it go. It will haunt him and his business forever and in the end it will probably ruin his hard work and efforts he has put forth to get this Hobby where it is today. The judges and the KB guy has to live with it everybody else gets to crawl and comp with a clear concience.

I agree. The judges should have teched his rig before each run with one of the supplied "Tech Wands" that each judge had for their course. If his rig was deemed to be illegal, it should have been made legal before it was allowed to run. Since the sides to Jake's body were folded and not cut, it would have been a 5 second fix to make that body meet the spec.

I know of a 2.2 rig that ran 4 courses through LCQ, and then another 3 courses on Saturday before he was teched and it was determined that the body was short. This is a failure on the judges part. They had the tools at their disposal all weekend and chose not to use them.

Unfortunately drivinMF, your not the one that needs to be taking blame or apologizing. I wish the best for you, as I have seen and heard, you are an inspiration to everyone in this hobby.

Peace,
Stew

Sooooooo........The body was indeed what won him the Title it had nothing to do with his awesome driving????C'mon guys i think a big deal is being made out a situation that is being adressed......The hand has been dealt let the cards play out:oops::oops:

"DO WORK, DRIVERS"

Parker, could you please explain your reasoning behind this decision? I think that could clear up alot of the confusion.

There are alot of guys who are behind you, we all know you're a stand up guy.

The scenerio: long day, sun had set, drivers waiting on trophy presentation.

I was approached with the body issue. I had not seen the body nor was I judging when Jake ran.

These issues should be addressed immediately as they happen, unfortunatly this was not the case. I secured the body in question, retrieved the rules, and asked for Fishmaxx. Fishmaxx was already down the mountain, the rules were clear on body height, and the body in question had the body to make the heighth requirement, but as I had it, the sides were folded under, an extreme boatside, if you will.

There was no question, the body height as I had recieved it was 2.5". I then wanted to hear from the driver and the judge to get thier sides of the matter. Again, I don't jump to conclusions and don't care who the parties envolved are and it is really hard to determine what happened after a whole day of crawling has played out.

So, base on the information that I was able to abtain, taking into consideration the 90 plus point lead that the driver had established, even if I had fiftied the driver for the shoot out course; it would not have changed his finish.

The judge was professional, the driver had driven the rest of courses without being called out on the body again, so based on that no other judges had issues, the fact that a 50 would not change the outcome, I ruled that the standings stay.

I was not going to undermine the judges and thier ability, when it was my responsibity to give them the proper avenues to take in a situation like this. The judge with the keen eye, hated being in this situation, but if given the proper guidence, he/she would have known how to handle it.
Again, my bad.

I won't lie, if Fishmaxx was available and keep in mind, end of the day, by now, a headlamp was needed, not only did I make the call to the best of my ability, but I also made the call to postpone award ceremonies until Saturday. Again, on me.

Hind site is 20/20. This is how I would handle this issue as a judge:

If the drivers body is out of spec and he/she refuses to fix it 1) request a marshall then! I like option two, let the driver start his/her run, stop the run, tech the car again, give the driver the chance to fix it on course with time running, as soon as the car is back in specs, reposition the driver back in front of the start gates and give him 10 pnts for a touch.

Thank you, Driver, now "DO WORK".

It' unfortunate that this Super Class icident came up, I feel that I made the correct call given the info that I had. I believe that the outstanding job the the Rules Committee does will clean some grey out of this and only good will come of it.

I am glad to say that the 2.2 class ran just fine. I am proud of the judges that volunteered their expertise and I would judge beside them anyplace; anytime, again.

I hope this clears it up for most. I have always led from the front and even though this was not on the 2009 Proline World Championship menu, I will eat this dish of raw rocky mountain oysters, alone.

This is why no one is questioning or putting you with Jake on this point. I know first hand you have integirty and morals. You stand up to what decisions you make. You are truly a class act. Brian you are one of, if not the best man in the business. Keep your head up and your wheels down.

Parker, your a good guy and will comp on any course or comp your involved with whenever i can. With that said, i dont envy the position that you are in, and youll never please everyone. If i can suggest something from the truggy racing side. maybe a rule change is in order to have a top 3 finishes need to be teched after they win. This would be an easy thing to implement and would ensure that something like this doesnt happen again. Would be easy you start in spec and you must still be in spec after the end.
I do appreciate all the work that everyone put into the comp, i loved the courses, and i enjoyed talking to all the guys i met. There are a few things that bothered me about the entirety of the Worlds, but most have been addressed so i wont rehash them here. All i can say is thanks your a standup cat and had a good time meeting you.

DO WORK DRIVER!!!!!!!!

As long as you did the best you could with the info you were given, there is nothing to appologize for. I don't think anyone is laying too much of this on your shoulders anyway. Only so much can be done after the fact. And thank you for giving your side, its much appreciated.

Having said that, since the driver was allowed to continue on after he had been called out on it, shouldn't that account for something? Just because the later judges didn't take issue (they may not have noticed the infraction) doesn't mean that a rule wasn't continuing to be violated. It would make sense to apply the penalties to each course that was run with a rig out of spec...especially considering it would of taken only 10 seconds to fold the sides back out and put it back into proper spec.

I think that is really getting to people is that the driver knew full well what the regulations were, ignored them, and was allowed to finish clean, not to mention take the world title. Had this been for 10th place, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal, though still in no way right.

Edit: Thank DMF for taking the time to answer the questions and all your hard work.

X2

So I can build a truck that isn't legal and all I have to do to avoid a DQ is:

  • Make sure that nobody notices until after I'm done.
  • Drive well enough to survive massive penalties even though I could have won without an illegal truck in the first place.

:???:

So basically I can cheat and as long as I don't get caught until after I'm done its A-OK??

Jake's rig didn't meet spec on all the courses he ran so:

2.2.5 -
If at any point during a run your vehicle falls out of these vehicle specs for any reason you will be required to take a touch penalty and correct the problem.

He failed to correct the problem so:

3.12 - Any violations of event rules are subject to disqualification by judges and/or event organizers.

He should have been disqualified and given a 50 for all three courses.

Technically I would think he would have recieved a DNS (50pts) per course. You can't start a section if your rig is out of spec.
