Hey Guys I have a random question about lipo batteries a C ratings.


Hobby People has a great deal on some wattage 3S 11.1V 1500MAH 15C lipo batteries.

Just wondering if this is a usable C Rating?

I am running a Castle Creations Mamba Max with a 35T HH Handwound Motor.
I am currently running a http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php?productid=234&cat=10&page=1. it has a 25C rating, and I have never had an issue with it.

The biggest issues I am having with my current battery is that it does not last long enough (im planning on 3 of these smaller new batteries), and they do not fit in the stock battery location on my LCC.

15C on those packs is only 22.5 amps. You could draw more amps than that with your motor if the drivetrain gets bound up. I'm guessing that you'd be safer getting at least a 20C or 25C pack.
 
damn, i can get these batteries on sale right now for $20/ piece.

thought it might be a little too good to be true.

anyone running this type of electronics with a small C battery?

does anyone know what the max draw of the mamba max is? I tries the website but it looks like everything is updated to the new mambamax pro.
 
I'm using a 1300mah 15c 3s with a Sidewinder & HH Puller 500. No issues at all. Of course, I don't try to plow my way through a bind either...

I can get 30 - 40 minutes drivetime out of it, depending on what I'm doing. Usually I'll run a full comp (4 sections, 10 gates each) on one battery, and still have juice to goof off afterwards.

I am running a LCC, so i dont need alot of torque due to the crawl ratio, but i usually crawl pretty lightly, and try not to power my way through stuff.

I think i might try a couple of them, worse case i can sell them if they just dont work for me.
 
hobbyking.com I used some integy so called 1350mah 20c, but when you get them they say 20c burst, 15c constant. I had 3. 1 swelled up so bad I trashed that one. Another is starting to swell. And the third is still good so far. Then I got some Rhino 1050mah 40c constant 50c burst, 14.95. The punch power is WAY BETTER from the 40c. They dont last as long, but thats just from the smaller mah. Im looking now for another with more mah. Get at least 20c I guess is the point.

I ordered mine on the 5th of this month and they sent me a email saying that till the 6th they will be out cause of some holiday they were having..got another message saying that on the 8th they shipped.....and still waiting, but patently...hope these are worth the wait.

Got 4 1500 3s 20c zippy batteries from there for my mini erevo. 3 of them have been flawless, 1 had a bad connection from one of the balancer wires, just needed to be resoldered to the pack though, quick 5 minute fix. So happy with the batteries for their price, ordered a couple 1050 30c Rhino batteries that are a more suitable size for crawlers.
It does take a while for them to ship to the states though.
 
Those 15c batteries the OP referenced will likely swell fairly quick. Lower discharge rate packs just don't handle the bursts well, and the cheaper ebay lipos tend to have marginal construction. Not saying they won't work, but you do get what you pay for. Cheaper packs have thinner traces, thinner anode and cathode material, variances in cells, etc..

Lots of choices in battery out there, I would tend to refer customers to companies instead of ebay sellers. Better support, and typically better products. If you are in the US I would also recommend supporting US vendors. We can't get out of our slump by sending all our disposable income overseas. Just some food for thought...


To the OP, You could always stack some smaller packs in parallel for longer runtimes and more current handling. They will take up more room this way, but you can get the footprint needed.
 
I have to remind myself of this often. Some items, there is no choice or option. Other items there is a choice, and it normally boils down to saving bucks or supporting US vendors.
 
I think part of your short run time problem is your Losi. The worm gears are inefficent in a big way. It takes alot of power to move those gears.
I run 1100 25c 3s lipo's and get about 8 min run times. Most comps are 5 to 6 min. so it wasnt a big deal but trying to practice sucked. Good luck and dont forget to keep your worms greased.
 
You can find a lot of cheap Lipo's at my side of the world. Many of them made in neighboring countries, quite attractive especially because of the low price. Quality is not consistent, maybe if your lucky you can get good ones BUT even the good ones perform so-so, and bloat easily when slightly abused or over discharged.

That said, I still go for known brands (e.g. Flight Power, Thunder Power.) They perform better, are packed safe, very reliable, and carry a bank-able replacement warranty. (That's right top brands on-occasion do fail, BUT they are quick to do an exchange.) "thumbsup"
