Here is the start of my first scale build. I'm posting early, because I'm going to need alot of help.

I've scaled the body at 1:14 with a 6 foot bed ( 8 ft. was stock) so 1.55 wheels should give em scale 21.7 close to the stock 22.5 semi wheels. I will run single tires with a goal of having a modified expedition truck look.

I started with some square stock and ripped it down to get some frame rails. I then brazed in a cross member. Its a start, I'm waiting on tlt axles in the mail. Now I gotta make some leaf springs:)

Please give any, and all suggestions, I really do need the help"thumbsup"

Sounds like you know what your doing to me! I am in the same boat as you with my frame build Im also about to start making the leaf packs. Im going to tear down my weedeater and yse the recoil spring if its wide enough. Where did you get the metal tubing you made your frame from? And what size tubing did it start as?

where did you get that body?

Got it in the classifieds, jwalker sold it to me, great seller"thumbsup"
It was a New Bright RC from WallMart new in the box:mrgreen:

I started making some leafs out of a backpack blower spring, but I'm not sure I'm going to like the action or consistancy of movement from these. I had considered coil springs with 4 link and shocks, not sure.:?

I got the tubing from Home Depot, It measures 3/4" square, they had smaller. I needed to scale the stock 10" +- frame."thumbsup"

i am glad to have sold it to you. atleast you are doing something with it. i will be watching this build for sure."thumbsup"

same here. I also have the CXT body, and was thinking of selling it because of all the other projects at home. Hmm, maybe not I'll be watching! Seems as though you have the right metal working equipment there, so this should be good!

Glad to see you've gotten started! Looks like it's going to be a cool build. I really like these trucks. A buddy of mine has a silver one, it's a monster of a truck. Keep it up!

I got some leaf springs made up. Brackets for the front axle stationary end. I also got my TLT axles in ( Thanks BG Gruff ) and got the front axle cleaned up and extra stuff ground off.

I'll fab up some shackles for the other end with brackets and then on to the rear"thumbsup"

I also got some 1.9's on loan ( Thanks Firekid) for mock up. I ordered 1.55 RC4WD stamped steel wheels and 1.55 stompers from santa ( TCS). They are the same dia. as the loaners but with a more scale wheeel size.

I think I like the leaf springs now, but I also think the rear will need traction bars?

Nice start. I really like these CXT builds. 1.55 wheel selection should be a challenge

Thanks"thumbsup" I'm going with the 1.55 stamped steel wheel from RC4WD and may modify the look for my build with stompers. I want large singles not stock duallies.

If you change your mind and want to sell let me know. I want one.

You'll definitely want some traction bars if you go with a single leaf.

I've got some Tamiya semi rear wheels I could part with; you could narrow the duallie assembly to get a nice looking super single. Ought to fit the 1.55 tires just fine.

I think I'll put traction bars on the back, and I'll add an extra leaf or two"thumbsup"

I got some 1.55 stamped steel wheels from the wifeee for x-mas, ......If I don't end up using them I'll see if you still have the dualies, Thanks for the offer:)

Any updates yet. This thread has gotten boring. j/k looks good so far

Thanks for stopping by,...Here's the door:mrgreen:... j/k "thumbsup"

I finally got some work done, I've been studing threads and redoing alot. It's a slow process, but I don't want my first build to be crap.

Please let me know if you see something that won't work....

I got some leaf spring brackets made up, I'll get some all-thread in the AM to make some u-bolts for them.

With the front springs and perches/shackles done, I can start on my PTO winch"thumbsup" I hope.....

Seeing this build makes me want to get mine off the shelf and start building it.8) How wide are those leaf springs?

The leaf springs are 1/4" wide and around 5" long before compression. I made them from pull cord recoil spring from a Stihl backpack blower.

Hope that helps"thumbsup"
