on 1-14-10 I Broke my right leg at Moonrocks
Tib Fib
Slipped down a 15' wall and landed on my right leg & broke it in 2 places
Tib broke 4" front side above the ankle
Fib broke 6" below and behind the knee
They put a 12" long titanium rod in my tibia where the bone marrow once was.
They said they will not mess with the fibula, I guess it will heal on it's own?

Sorry to hear about your accident. Do you have insurance?

I broke my leg in 6th grade snowboarding. Mine was a clean break, tib/fib 3 inches above the growth plate. No surgeries, no setting, they didn't even need to prick me with a needle!!

As I remember it, it was a good week before the throbbing pain went away. After the swelling went down it would only hurt if I didn't elevate it for a long time. It was 6-9 months till I felt like it was back to 100%

Your injury looks much worse than mine was so don't be surprised if you have lingering effects from this for a long time.

If you're in pain then your doc should give you better drugs, call him up.

good luck and get well soon "thumbsup"

Edit: and I was walking with crutches for ~4 weeks.

thanks engineerjoe
i have great insurance the nurse when i left said they gave me great pain pills, i thought maybe i just need to man up a bit:?
oxycodone 325mg

I shattered the tib/fib knuckle about 10 years ago racing supercross when I way over jumped a double and came up about 3 bike lengths short of making the triple.:? Guess I should've gassed it harder. Spent 4 months in an external fixator, but they had me doing some minor weight bearing for the last week or so before that came off. I was out of work for 9 months total...but I was riding the dirtbikes 8-1/2 months after the big break.

Just listen to your Doc, the rehab people and mostly your body....they all know what you need.

my wife has been telling me since this happened, your Doctor and most important your body will let you know when your ready.

i just got 4 months off with full pay, i was hopeing to take 3 months off and save the last month for building my truggy and rock crawling practice:| time will tell i guess

Sorry to hear about your accident, hope you feel better soon.
Luckily I've never broken any limbs, only wrecked my knee twice, about twenty years ago I damaged my ACL and then just a few years ago, ripped my shin open and tore it up again, no money for surgery, so my knee is pretty unstable now. I was on crutches for about six weeks both times, and it still hurts most days, especially when the weather is cold and damp.
Anyway, let nature take it's course, like the others say, listen to the Doc and your therapist, you will know it when you feel ready for more activity.

I was in a massive car accident in Feb and am still trying to get back to normal i broke my Tib and then about 3 months later i ended up breaking the first bone in my foot i have more damage in the rest of my body buy my foot is so damaged that i could lose it because it will stop working, i basically have to work through the pain and make myself work just to try to get my foot going again... get better dude"thumbsup"

I broke my leg when I was 3, I can remember a little but not much. It broke in 3 places, My brother was riding his bike turned to sharp when circling me and fell, my leg got twisted in the frame.

I remember one part that was the worst my mom checking to see if my leg was broke:shock: she put me down let go and I started to fall so she grabbed me and off to the hospital it was.

I know that it was a pain for me to stay still at that age. I think it only took 2 1/2 months for me to be up and running around again, so in your case because your older probably don't heal as good I would say 5 or 6 months before your back to normal-ish walking but you will have a few months after that before your back to not worrying a lot about it.

I will say if your not lactose intolerant, drink lots of milk for the calcium, I have calcium build ups around the areas I broke my leg.

Wow 15 foot that's a nasty fall but I guess I don't have to tell you that.
Good luck with the recovery, 6 month seems kind of steep but I guess driving a titanium rod into your tibia isn't something your body's gunna accept anytime soon.

Shame they have to cut open that sweet pair of jeans.

Did my tib and fib, clean threw. was almost a compund. I lost track of how many different cast i had, but it was 6 months before i could put a good amount of weight on it.

oxycodone 325mg
Actually your only getting 5mg of Oxy and 325mg of Acetaminophen. I would think they would give you at least 10mg of Oxy! I've had 3 knee surgeries from a motorcycle wreck, ACL. Rehab for you is important daddy-0! Do what they say and you will be back up running! If you slack on the rehab it will bite you in the ass! Get better!"thumbsup"

in February 2007, returning from a mountain hike in the snow with my Emaxx slid on ice and broke my fibula 8 cm above the ankle.
With that I could walk one kilometer but with much pain and the sooner you should be seen by a doctor because there is internal bleeding and inflamed ankle.
This photo is one hour later, in the medical services of a ski resort.

caida1n.jpg

Orthopedic hard boots 3 weeks. One month later: beginning to walk with the aid of a crutch.
+ Physiotherapy, two and half months after: walking perfectly.
Six months later I was doing mountain trails of moderate difficulty, no problem now but I decided not to go skiing.

A day after ,at home with the crutch and the Emaxx stopped for a while
are also the crampons that I had taken off minutes before the accident, thinking that there was no ice on the ground

car insurance took care of everything and sent two taxi drivers to take me to my house, one in his cab and another driving my car over 600 km round trip

Snapped my fibula in three pieces near my ankle in 2005 at a UROC event.

Drove home through the night in a stock shift car with just an Ace bandage holding it in place. That was not fun.

I was out for 3 months.

it hurt every time i thought about moving it, i can't imagine driving a stock shift car:shock:, hell just the ride alone couldn't have been joyful, you probably really felt the bone crepitis on that one

They now have 15 mg and 30 mg oxycodone.Just by itself with no other stuff with it.I think what they gave you are generic percocet.I broke my back a few years ago and that's what they gave me at first. Now i'm taking 8 10mg methadones day,and i also get 7.5mg of percocet for break threw pain. That pretty much leaves me feeling no pain at all.But it's hell if i run out early and have to go without,so i'd try to stay away from them unless you can't stand it.Which from the looks of things, looks like it fawkin hurts.

I broke my lower right leg mountain biking. Spent a week in the hostpital , 3 operations and 2 1/2 months in rehab. Owe

It was thankfully my right leg, so the clutch wasn't the problem. 2 1/2 hour ride home starting around 3 am. A lot of cruise controlling. About half way I had to stop for a bit and sleep after the shock wore off. Pulled in around 7 and crawled from the car to the couch! I was proud of myself. :ror:

About a week wait for the surgery, and after the installation of a Titanium plate and 6 screws, it hurt more.

Percocet and beers!

Never broke those bones, I've broken a lot of others though. I did break my left arm clean through 2" below my shoulder socket across the growth plate. It was 3 months before I could even move it, then 2-3 months of PT. Its been nearly 10 years and my left bicep is 2/3 the size of my right, no mater what I do. (I have already heard all the jokes.........) Make sure you do the PT, there is a reason for all that stupid painful shit.
