Cutting a motor commutator & motor tweaks

Did you just offer me an even better motor for $10?

This is a good comparison.

Hmm, I like that! I was running Fantom 35's before I switched to 400 pullers. I miss the low speed resolution of a 540, but the pullers wheelspeed is intoxicating. I may have to reconsider now, these may be the ticket, thanks for the pics "thumbsup"

Im glad to see 4 magnet cans making a comeback. My best 2 performing comp motor cans are 4 magnet epic cans. The power delivery is just so smooth with them compared to the same arms in a 2 magnet can.

Didn't think of the forward only, but I did read every post and I don't think they ever said what it is other than a semi conductor. I'm pretty sure they said it's not a diode.

Ah....Powertrix arms (hated that name).....they were great, but they had tons of issues we could never overcome......the main one being production issues. Soldering them on was a bitch....like think worse than Peg Bundy on her period.....

If everything worked right, they were awesome on the track......we were getting a good 30 seconds of extra run time, less comm wear, and better braking with them.....

Warranty was a nightmare with them.....I think I replaced 25% of them that I sold.

But, they just really never caught on very much.....I think the price did not help.....

I still own the rights to it.....I turned the patent crap in, but I never followed up on it, wasn't worth it...

And now for the bad news, they were one direction only.....they would go pop if you put them in reverse....

I still have a bunch of them somewhere.....

I find it funny yer reading rccars.com.....I have been rereading a bunch of the threads for the last couple days.....its been cool refreshing the brain, plus I think I've figured out a few things everyone may be doing wrong.....or I guess causing more harm than good.

Yeah, been kind of bored lately, and just reading and reading til I hit the end of the internet. Some of 2004 or 5 time period is funny stuff.

Wrong? I'll guess timing?

I'm guessing 0 timing too, based on comments made earlier in the thread. Inquiring minds want to know! I generally run mine with a tic of advance, but the majority probably run 0* since it is how many crawler motors are sent out.

That's why I guessed timing also. I tend to run a little advanced, not more than 12 degrees though. Sometimes I do that just because when reverse is faster it drives me nuts.

I am shipping all motors out with 6.....

But, no its not timing....I already voiced my stuff on it...

With the new motors, I am still deciding to go NEOs or not. Big Jim always used to tell me that we don't use enough voltage to saturate the arm, so the magnetic forced produced by the magnets bogs down the arm. It's gotta be as close to even as we can get it really. Of course, we made a NEO magnet can once and put a 7 turn in it........the thing was a missle, broke the track record for lap and overall.....and we still had juice left in the battery....so I dunno how solid the theory was, but in his notes, he mentioned that if you go TOO much voltage, then the opposite happens...

BUt the kicker was something I spaced on, which is increasing the voltage decreases the torque.....so, possibly thats where we are messing up on some stuff...

Gonna take some tinkering and testing, but we will see....

As soon as I ship the rest of the orders I got here, I am gonna work on some organization, but I am gonna make another NEO can......then I will have to find a lucky soul who gets to test it.....since I can't leave the house still! Well, and no running crawler! I need a pitman!

I hit the jackpot the other nite... I scored 2 more cases full of motors and arms that I didnt take pics of too. I'm gonna be cutting comms for weeks.

The much more motor things were cool, but they blew up too easy. We must of went through about 10 of them at brood, not counting the 5 I sent in to be fixed....

The much more lathe is terrible....at least the one I had was. The bit would come loose during cuts, and it was bad bad news....

Was it all cheap at least?

I picked up every bit of it for less than $50. I seriously doubt I keep the lathe (it did produce a nice cut on the 3 arms I tested and I know Mo originally set it up, so it was set up nice). I may keep the motor checker since my tekin dyno finally gave up the ghost after almost 18 years of use and abuse. The main reason I bought all of it was for the motors. I picked up 4 checkpoints (2 have never seen a car), 4 V2 mods (2 orion and 2 fantom), 4 brand new 19t adjustable timing fantoms and a whole case of stock motors. Ive already sold a few of the stock motors to guys running VTA and paid for my whole buy.
