Antenna Questions?

So I wanted to know if anyone had any input on the antenna's on these trucks. All my electronics are stock, stock radio stock receiver. My question is i tried to take the antenna off so it wasnt sticking out of the top of the trucks body (so when it rolls it doesnt bend the crap out of the antenna) I wrapped the antenna wire around the support post and the truck would glitch and hop, stop start type of action?? I have upgraded my servo, metal gears, rear is locked out so only one servo, HP Sedona White dots, 4oz weight in the front and 2oz in the rear. When the antenna is up (sticking out the top of the truck body) it runs fine. My main point here is i see a lot of other's trucks on here and no antenna sticking out from the top of the body, what did you do to avoid this glitchy action?? Thanks!

I'm thinking the glitching is probably coming from you wrapping the antenna wire around the metal support posts. I use to run my antenna wrapped around a piece of lexan and it worked fine. A lot of us have converted to 2.4ghz setups to avoid glitching and with those, no antennas sticking out.

Well number one the stock reciever antenna is picky and it likes to be sticking straight up and thats it. Number two is that there is little you can do, I tried wrapping it around lexan and routing it all through the frame with rubber wire casing and it just would not perform glitch free. The only fix I was able to convert to a 2.4ghz system.

The best antenna in the world aint going to help you when its powered by the stock radio. Mine hopped and glitched no matter what I did.

Alot of things can cause this being wrapped around the metal like js said,a tight bend in the antenna wire,a power wire too close to the antenna, the governments thought reading satelites.... The 2.4 radios pickup alot less interfearance well worth the upgrade, mine claims... a 2000ft range better than the 5ft I got with the stock lol

...or you could try a tinfoil hat for your crawler

Very nice FlySky 2.4ghz radio and reciever on hobbypartz.com for 20.00$ shipped.

So this is a pretty good radio and receiver? This would help eliminate the glitches I'm experiencing, hopefully, lol! Thanks everyonr for the input, I didnt realize the radios made that much of a difference.

Personally, I would suggest going with the nicer flysky fs-gt3b radio...it's only $35 shipped and I've had good luck with mine.

I looked at this one as well, other than the fact that this one has the digital display does it do anything better or more functions than the 20.00 one? Can I adjust/align the front servo to make the front wheel straight with the 20.00 one, thats one thing I want to make sure of, sorry if that is a dumb question I just know that on the stock one everything is digital with it not many knobs on it.

The nicer one has a 10 model memory, you can adjust end points, and it has various other adjustments. Since I have multiple r/c vehicles and not all of them have the same radio settings, the fact that it has a 10 model memory made it a no brainer decision for me to get it over a cheaper one.

was wondering if that flysky would work if i am still running 4 wheel steer not sure what to look for when it comes to that. and wanting to upgrade to a 2.4ghz

No because the 3rd channel is simply an on/off sitch and will not support rear steer. There is some affordable 4 channel radios on rc4wd that will do 4ws I believe.

Basically any radio has throttle and trim(steering) adjustments. The main reason I went flysky was I am aquiring quite an arsenal of vehicles and the recievers are tiny, dirt cheap and reliable. The 35.00 flysky has a third channel that works with an axial type on/off dig and there is a mod coming soon that will aloow for a 3 postion dig aka moa dig.

So really it's(gt3b) great for people who want to have one remote with multiple cars, but for someone like me with only the one crawler I would be fine with the cheaper one?? I mean really it's only a few more bucks for it but I just dont want to get something I may not necessarily need if the cheaper one does what I need it to. As long as the cheaper one allows me to adjust my steering and speed of the crawler, as thats all I really know to adjust on them, I think I would just as well get the cheaper one. Again thanks jsowens, I feel like a pain in the a$$ with all these silly questions but thats why I joined on here so you pro's can set me straight!!! Thanks again

Just to be clear 4ws is not possible with either flysky.

I have the 2ch flysky for my Losi McRC and my Rustler. I bound them both seperatley once and they both work fine. Doesn't claim model memory but does work with multiple rx. They seem fine for crawlers but the response is a little slow for the stadium truck. Also my other rx is from HobbyKing and only $6! I went with the Traxxas TQ4 HO for the RS10 and its great. One channel can be easily converted to 3 position for dig or 4ws.

Biggest bonus of 2.4, No more antennas in your eye!:ror:
