Whats wrong with the Canadians?

I still think of America as the greatest country in the world, but people are right when they say that we may not be Number ! at this moment.
We have allowed our elected government to
-let the banking and securities industries destroy our economy and they are still at it.
-let out health care system get out of control. Someone asked to name anyone that was denied critical care, they need to look around, it happens every day. We have suffered through 4 devastating cancer attacks leading to 3 deaths in our family. Of them only one had Insurance due to the economy crash. No insurance means you get BASIC care. None of the new (i.e expensive) treatments, basic radiation and chemo then pain management and a funeral. Try going to the Cancer Center of America with no insurance. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Generalizing that socialized medicine doesn't work because of slow medical in Canada or the lack of dentists in Great Britain is bull, the fact is, we are the only industrialized nation without some form of socialized medicine and some of these systems work great, France, Spain, Germany, Israel, etc.
-we are involved in WAY too many foreign affairs, especially for and with countries that really are not our friends, allies maybe but allies of connivence. Get us out of these conflicts and stop pooring money we have to borrow into other countries. Put aid where it belongs, in humanitarian aid. If there really is a need to intervene in another country, do it in a shock and awe manner then get the fawk out.
-Our taxes are out of control. Getting a big refund has no bearing on how well our system works, it just shows you paid in too much. The IRS needs to de eliminated and a flat tax implemented. The idea of giving business and (this really pisses me off) big investors huge tax breaks pushes the tax burden on the middle income families. And it has yet to show any effect. The money continues to go off shore and our taxes continue to increase. I am retired from the US Navy and for the last 2 years my retirement has gone down every year, no Cost of Living Raises because the inflation index is too low but my taxes have increased every year.
-It is hard to stand up and wave your arms saying we are number one when we have a $14trillion dollar debt and our biggest lender, outside of Social Security, Retirement Funds and government bonds is China.
I am not a tea partyer as I believe they are nothing more than wanabee rich republicans that really epitomize the ME generation, but they have some good points in that we have to slash government spending. But it can't all come from our social programs. If you want to slash then do it across the board. But every cut congress makes in someone benefits needs to happen to theirs also. End the permanent health care for politicians and the ridiculous retirements they get for 6 years of service and then maybe we can get them to actually see what us little people go through.
