New Quicksand 8274 Winches

well, I talked to Neil(QUICKSAND) few times to figure out how I need to do with this winch after I received this winch three weeks ago.

and here are what I did with my QS 8274 winch.

first, u have to take out the plastic black cover from winch. and drill a small hole on the cover to lead those two wires from motor

second, solder two wires on that motor (I got a broken 3racing winch, so I cut out the wires and solder it on my QS Winch )

then put that cover back to winch, and lead those two wires out

PS: make sure u don't drill a big hole, otherwise the motor will get dirt if u run in the mud or water 8)

By the way,
I am running with heyok's standard winch controller, and it works pretty well so far "thumbsup"

hope these info help you guys.....
I really want to see how people play with this winch (how to wire up with controller and what is the best way to run with this winch in order to get max. torque:))

No they are not plug and play DJ. Check out Neil's first post in this thread.
Read newb...........:mrgreen::ror:
For a couple of reasons, I have made the decision to offer them directly.
They will be sold in an assembled, but unwired form. If you wish to purchase
them ready to run from MSD, that may still be an option in the future.
(provided Ben and I work out the details)

Ok so I took my cover off to wire it today. What is the little metal pipe type pole soldered to the outside of the motor case? I'm assuming it doesn't get a wire soldered to it but not sure right now. Thanx

It depends if you are going run the winch from the servo control board or from an ESC.
If you are going to use the servo control board then the black wire gets soldered to that tab.

Come on Chris.....You know I look at pictures first and......hold on...what did you say?

(Reading)

I got it! Nothing too hard to work on....I'd do some pretty homo stuff to get one of these winches. I'd build a rig AROUND this winch.

I didn't think there was a step after reading pics........
This winch is worth building a rig around.
I plan on running a b1r to power this, so I'm assuming I use the +/- tabs. Thanx chris!
If you are using an ESC to run the winch then yes, just solder to the motor tabs like rcscaler did above.

Thanks for posting that rcscaler. "thumbsup"

thanks Grizzly4x4 "thumbsup"
I tried my best to post this info, but please edit it if there were something wrong :ror:

Can you tell me where I am on the list? And when I can expect to have it shipped? Thank you, can't wait to get it.

Yes, thanks David. And thanks for making that little change for me."thumbsup"
By the way.... did your hex wrenches arrive yet?

I'm working now on trying to get a few of the parts I have the least of done next, and I think you're 2nd on the next batch. If that's the case, you may be looking at a few weeks. If you want to send me an email, we can confirm this.... I don't have everyone's RCC name matched up with their name on my list.

neil, i think that having that option to mount the fairlead to the bottom of the spool support mount would b a great option. This would allow us to not have a metal tab on the bumpers of our rigs and allow this bad ass winch to be more visable!!! just having a tapped hole like the other side only on the bottom, leaving it as close to the 1:1 8274 would be great. thanx for considering that option."thumbsup"

Neil,
