I have the oppurtunity to buy a 2007 FJ Cruiser and wanted to know if anyone here has one and is satisfied or discussed. Here is a pic of it.

Details:2007 FJ Cruiser, V6 , automatic, 27,000 miles, lift kit, wheels and tires, roof painted to match body. He has all maintanence records and runs synthetic oil and changed it every 2500 miles. It is owned by an older couple who trailered it behind their motorhome in an enclosed. He is asking $18,000.
Tell me what you think and would like to hear from FJ owners. Thanks.

Buddy at work had one after he got divorced. He loved it. Very cool looking, tough, and let's face it, it's a friggen Toyota.

Change the oil, take care of it, and it will rust away long before it stops running.

Heard they ride rough once you lift them no matter the make of the suspension. Other than that I haven't heard anything bad bsides the view from the windshield is really bad. (Narrow). The three wipers are kinda cool...

IFS: Check
Lift Kit: Check
Worst off-road tires ever on ugly wheels: Check

Just buy an H2 and get it over with.

I had one, sucks with kids, after leveling kit it was annoying to drive on the freeway, very limited visibility, windshields are expensive because you have to replace a $400 trim piece to do it. Those were my gripes. Besides that it was a good vehicle. I never had an issue with it. I like my Tacoma a lot more.

The taco, the forerunner and the FJ are all sitting on the Taco's chassis so they are all basically the same...

Pros:
It's a Toyota and will last
Has "Cruiser" in name
Decent aftermarket support
already has lift kit
all-black paint

Cons:
Wishes it was a "real" Land Cruiser
x2 on hideous wheel/tire combo
useless "rock sliders"

...very limited visibility...

I don't have one, but I've been a passenger in my friend's FJ. This is what I also thought, especially in the back seat. The tiny window back there made me feel like I was taxiing in an airplane for an hour and a half.

I've heard the same complaint about the H2 though. Not sure what they were thinking...big trucks with portholes for windows.

I've driven both the FJ and the H2 (and 3) and they're like driving an old hotrod with a chopped top or a submarine. There was a narrow view of the world and I wasn't really keen on it. The FJ was nicer inside though, but an all black interior coupled with the small windows made me feel a bit cramped and claustrophobic.

I almost bought one when they came out, my sister did.

My big turn off were the poor visibility, and the fact the only windows that open are the front passenger and drivers. The rear is clammy especially if you have dogs.

They could have put a pop out window or a slider, I even emailed them about it.

Besides that it is a great rig from what I can tell, my sis got the Limited Edition, all black, manual trans, loaded, we take it wheeling and on road trips and have not had a lick of trouble.

+1 on the poor visibility. When driving it, it felt way bigger than it was; probably because I couldn't see out of it.

you should always be wary of buying a modified vehicle. you dont know if it was done properly or what headaches await you.

My buddy worked for a Toyota dealership and said the 4-door tacoma has more room in the back seat. I have a 03 tacoma double cab and I love it! I also have heard the lifted trucks destroy front end bushings.

I've only heard that for 4x4 Tacomas and Tundras. Like mine.
For offroad I have heard they are fun. Wish I had more input.:ror:

Pros - The usual

Cons - Sometimes, while parked at comp event in Arizona, they will be the target of abuse from a shade canopy and you'll have to replace a few windows and repaint the top.

I have an '08 FJ and so far it's been a great daily driver. We needed another SUV after our '98 Tahoe took a shit and I bought the new FJ instead of a new Tahoe purely because of the price, new Tahoe's were 40-45K, I got the new FJ for 27K out the door.

I drive the shit out of it on the road, ask dpdsurf, chino63, darksoul who can all attest to my amazing driving skills. It's been offroad a few times and has done great every time even with the rear hitch rack and the rig being filled to the brim.

Pros:

Very durable interior that you supposedly can use a hose to clean.

Plenty of horsepower to handle a fully loaded rig to travel at 80+ MPH. Tow capacity is 5K.

With the roof rack and rear hitch rack I can carry more gear then my old Tahoe and still get way better gas mileage.

Stock offroad capabilities are more then capable if you ever need them.

My cons or cons that my wife has:

My biggest complaint would be the design of the front doors and the seat belt system being integrated in it. There is a big plastic molding at the back side (towards the rear of the truck) that acts like a wind scoop and when you have the side windows down on the freeway or at any decent speed it directs the wind right into the side of your head. Because of this even on the nicest of warm weather days you won't be driving down the freeway with your windows all the way down.

Front visibility while at a street light poor, basically if you are the first one to the light then you won't be able to see the overhead street lights unless you are short or lean forward. Not really a big deal because I just look at the street lights on the side.

Rear and side visibility sucks and not much you can do to improve it so you just have to get used to paying attention to your surroundings when driving on the freeway and changing lanes. It's not that big of a deal for me.

Rear side windows don't open/roll down or do anything. For $400 you can get some aftermarket side windows that open from Toyota FJ Cruiser Windows | Vent, Side Windows FJ Cruiser | Toyota FJ Aftermarket Windows

My wife hates that you have to put 92 octane gas in it, I could care less. I'm very happy with the horsepower and think it definitely warrants the slight extra cost of premium fuel. I have a lead foot all the time and I get roughly 17-19MPG.

Wasn't there an issue with those cracking between the fender support and the firewall?
