4PK Setups, Tips, Tricks and Help

Is there a better way?

Like 53 said, we have found a couple of climbs that can be impossible without the rear severely over driven.

Set pm2b to one of your dts or dials. Then when you ativate mix 2 you can mix the front foward however you want. I don't know if I explained that right but it does work. You can also set condition 2 to adjust mix 2 to say 30 percent or whatever percent you think you need to overdrive the rear.

It can't be this simple, what am I missing....

My ARTR super showed up yesterday. I copied my 2.2 profile over to another, put ch4 (rear steer) on DT3 in 50% increments, calibrated the esc's, and it just works?

What am I missing here? I have front and rear dig and throttle proportional where I am used to them, and rear steer on a 3 pos. I do not think I need or want rear steer as a mix? I know I would not trade proportional throttle for it. So is this the way to be?

That's it. Nothing over complicated. Some people like a 20% increment on the rear steer but that's about all.

I may step down to 20%. I just set 50% to get used to having extra steering.

This setup will make it much easier to learn these things! Thanks for all your info Harley.

Is there anything in the settings that changes the range of the radio?

Awhile back I re wired my 2.2. As soon as I did that, anytime my car goes over a hill out of sight or even 10 - 15 feet above me, it goes out of range and my radio does not work. I assumed it was something I did with the wiring but all of my 3 cars do the same thing.

I usually dont run the wire on my RX but I have put it back on since and it seemed to only help a tiny bit. Also in the past, I took the antenna off the TX to see if I could run without it but it had glitching issues so I immediately put it back on. I have taken it off and on to see if that was the problem but couldn't see anything.

Any thoughts would be great.

Sounds like you possibly damaged the antenna inside the radio. This sounds like something that should be looked at by hobby services if you are seeing the problem on multiple RX's.

I will give them a shot.

Thanks!
Don't run a TX without an antenna, it usually overloads the output side of the TX and can damage it. If the antenna came loose on it's own, that may be why you had the original issue.

You CAN remove the antenna on the RX because it's only receiving, not transmitting. All you do is reduce range when you remove the antenna.8)

I have just noticed that my throttle trim seems to move up and down by itself. I have a 4pk. The first time was on a summit which i was not sure if it could have been the truck until I watched the bar graphs moving on the screen. The next time was during ECC on my xr and it moved enough to take out my drag brake. Luckily I was able to get help from Jake to move some settings around and run my last course. All of the trim adjustments are turned off so there is no way the settings could have just changed. Any suggestions???

Check the physical tension of the trigger. It may be time for a rebuild, you can have the radio freshened up at Futaba. I try and have mine done once every 200 hours. Lots of tracers suggest every 100 hours.

I think that it is around 120 hrs. What is the procedure for getting the rebuild. During my most recent move I have lost all of the papers that came with the radio. Thanks for the help and I didnt see you at ECC.

I wasn't able to make it to ECC this year sadly. That paper work isn't needed, just need to mail it into hobby services and specify the work you want done. There is a form on the website I believe, I'll try and find it and post it up.

Harley, I just finished changing over to the 4pks from 4pl, sweet radio too, and when I have the rear drive only in forward all is good but when I hit reverse the front drives as well. I did the setup per your post and checked the video too, but I can't find a solution. On the 4pl it wasn't like that.

If anyone is wanting to put a VP 1.9 on their radio let me know. I banged out a handful of adapters last night. I don't plan on offering these for very long. I was just testing out the mill setup last night. Email me for pricing.

Uses the stock wheel's foam.

2 piece setup.

you have to drill and tap the larger piece. All holes are spotted .050" deep already so there is no guessing. Super easy.

Ok I'm sick of the stupid nimh in my 4pk (cost me a race this weekend)

Anyway I want to run a lipo in it. Why CAN'T I use a lipo??

I find multiple thread where people say "I wouldn't suggest it" but I can't find anyone that has tried and/or posted the results.

i.e. did the radio burn up, did it give an error, did it just not turn on????

I don't want to use LiFe
1: don't want to buy a new charge
2: I'm very familiar with LiPo's
3: I have Lipo's that would fit already

The only reason I can think of not to use a Lipo in the radio is simply because of no low voltage cutoff. If you wire one in inline of the battery and voltage falls low enough, you can potentially lose control of your rig (damage, wreck, etc). If you don't wire one in, you run the risk of damaging the battery. The low battery warning trips at 4.9v. If you hear the warning, you've already damaged a Lipo.

A 2s lipo fully charged will trip the high voltage warning on the 4PK (8.0v) as well and is probably the reason why they aren't recommended.

LiFe batteries (although you don't want to use them) are still probably the best choice for the radio and will allow you to have a spare battery.

I've been cycling back and forth between my LiFe and Nimh pack on mine (per charge cycle) and have not ever had any issues.
