Re: Stainless Steel Screws FYI + Build Thread

Hey Guys,
I just put a full M3 Stainless Steel screw kit in my Wraith. I was looking at the RC kit specific options from a company I'm sure we all know, not going to throw names out there though. It was like $40.00 for the full set. I just went to Ace Hardware by my house and got enough M3 Stainless Cap Heads to completely replace EVERY screw on my truck about three times over for like $26.00! Now every screw on my ride is a Stainless Steel Cap Head! Not only does it look damn wicked, it would have cost me about $120.00 to get the same amount of screws that I got at Ace if I would have bought it from someone who threw them a plastic bin and called it "Vehicle Specific"! Anyone wanting to do a full Stainless Screw kit on their truck, check out your local hardware stores before you pay $40-$50 for something you can get for half the price. Its even sweeter if you can find a mom and pop shop, you can usually pay by weight there. I spent a little less than I would have by doing it this way and I'll never have to buy another screw for my Wraith again cuz I have a freakin' stockpile now! Just thought I'd share this with you guys. "thumbsup"

Re: Stainless Steel Screws FYI + Build Thread

Very nice build!!! If your getting a mmp and a pro4 you best be either getting that super shafty tranny or at the very least upgrade the gears in the tranny and after that you gonna need some lockers and upgraded gears for the diff's. If you do some searching there is a jb weld do-it-yourself locker upgrade or you can go with the HR shd lockers. Those are what I am running and they hold up great with my pro4!!!. Go check the electronincs section and see what some are saying about maxamps. Was very informative to me as I still consider myself a noob.

Re: Stainless Steel Screws FYI + Build Thread

Thanks for the kind words, at the very least the HR gears are on the list, I really want to do the Super Shafty but I'm kinda waiting to see the RC4WD 2 Speed that's coming soon, and the new VP Universals, those things are wicked cool! If their anything like the rest of their stuff their going to be awesome. I'm not new to the hobby but I'm new to crawlers, thank you guys for all your support, advise and wealth of knowledge. Everything done to this truck was done by recommendation from you guys. You know what works and what doesn't. So thank you for making this forum such an awesome place and my build as painless as possible. On the same note, damn you all for the cool ideas. I think by the time I'm done I'm going to have enough of the stock plastic parts left to build a second one. One question though, whats a good radio system to use for a crawler, I was thinking Spektrum or waiting for the new Ko-Propo Ex-1, any suggestions. Kinda leaning toward the Ko-Propo, I figure if I spend the money up front that radio will last a long time. It's stock Axial unit for me now!

Nice ride. I'm a Spektrum guy. Aside from running out of room for more receivers, I can't think of why I would want or need another radio.

Re: Stainless Steel Screws FYI + Build Thread

Ive never dealt with Spektrum, but I have heard very good things. I ran Airtronics in all my 1/10 on-roads, had the M8 and loved it, but wanting to try something new. I was actually looking into a DX7s, Spektrums Heli and Plane radio just because I love all the toggles and the extreme
program-ability of it. I'll have to swap the gimbals around and change it to Mode 2 so the throttle is on the right, (like the Euros fly). That way the Aileron - Elevator gimbal (the spring loaded one) is on the left. I used to fly Helis too, lol. You think the Wraith is a money pit, go buy a 450 or bigger size Heli! It costs $100 if you even look at thing crazy. But yeah I think I'm gonna go with Spektrum, doing a lot of reading and everyone seems very satisfied.

Re: Stainless Steel Screws FYI + Build Thread

Here's an idea for you if you want to make some money. I live in Australia and we don't have Ace Hardware. Why don't you start putting kits together for people who live overseas. Get some seallock baggies and buy a heap of screws from Ace Hardware (in bulk you might get a discount from them) and sell the kit you put together for $50USD plus postage. Create an ebay store and sell them like hot cakes. Some people prefer others who know what they are looking for to do all the work putting screw kits together.

It's just an idea for you to make a lil extra cash.

Re: Stainless Steel Screws FYI + Build Thread

Were the screws that you purchased fine or course thread?
