Well I dumped the dish months ago and got a samsung smart bluray player. Man I love it! I only watch "epic mealtime" and "trailer park boys".
Have you made the switch? what are you watching?

Haven't done roku yet, but looking.

I have created a Pi-XBMC that I plan on putting in the RV with a ton of movies for the down time. Works great at home on the big screen. Need to get a new TV for the RV that has HMDI.

we just cut our cable a few months ago. we have 3 tv's in the house. 2 use the nintendo wii for netflix (both used by the kids lol) and the 3rd, living room tv, runs a ps3 for netflix, huluplus, and youtube. plus i can kill hookers, zombies, and drive some cool cars on it too "thumbsup" i also built a media center for the living room that has a 1TB hard drive in it that is packed with movies, pictures, and music.

Ditched overpriced under supported dish a year ago went to cable and had the same issues. I now have Apple TV & Roku with Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, etc.... Won't go back to dish or cable

Buy a good laptop (on sale) that has HDMI output and wifi, connect to your wireless router and then plug HDMI cable to tv (most newer tvs have hdmi)...surf the net, watch tv online etc on your big tv. You can also take the laptop outside, the garage etc. and still surf and watch tv online! Originally I bought Sony Internet Player with Google TV box...big POS. I returned it to Fry's after two weeks, I couldn't customize the built in Google Chrome browser, no Adblock etc., built-in wireless was weak, just plain sucked and at price fixed $199.99, I could buy laptop on sale for a couple hundred more.

Bottom line, forget all the boxes and buy a laptop.

i agree with what is said here. like i said above, our living room has the media center in it along with the ps3. theres nothing like surfing the web on a 50" lcd tv. my ps3 has a browser on it, but it just isnt the same as a computer. i use a wireless keyboard and mouse to surf. oh, and a beer or two. lol

I use my xbox 360 with a program called Tversity . Tversity sets up my desk top as a media server. I can download movies, rip them to my 2 tb HD and watch until dawn. I downloaded entire shows like House, and Always Sunny. Plus I use it for Netflix, Hbo go and Hulu plus. The xbox also plays games, dvd's etc. Best $199 that can be spent IMO. I think the PS3 does most or the same except it will not play a lot of downloaded movies. No issues with the xbox.

The cheap laptop is also a great idea I had not thought of. Only issue I could see is how well the on board video processor would handle HD. I guess as long as it is not rendering it ( like in a video game) it would probably be OK.

ive got ruku. for the price, its great. i caught up on the walking dead, top gear, ect. i just wish there was better movies and a better selection on netflix. other than that, pandora and facebook are a cool upside. not really into the games, but i guess it would be cool. hulu, nexflix, ect. they all pretty much show the same stuff. you can by any tv show or movie seperately on amazon though."thumbsup"

Problem with any device with built in browser and proprietary hardware is that they (Sony is worst offender) won't let you block any ads, download/install software to make the hardware better or customize to your wants as you've seen. Yes, we are not gaming so no need for heavy duty video card with rendering etc. If you watch Fry's, BestBuy, Office Depot, and online sellers you can score something that works great for about $400 give or take out the door with tax and all.

EDIT: Love the Trailer Park Boys....sadly it hasn't been on in my area for awhile now.

Discovered a neat little trick for gen2 and 3 AppleTV and iPad2/iPhone 4s and higher users. It's called 'Mirroring'. It allows you to mirror that device right to your TV! Maybe this is old news to some!

Had Roku and it was great. I needed a Blu-Ray player so I got one that can do everything the Roku did. I was able to get one more box and remote out from under the TV.

I have a roku attached to each of our TV sets. I also use PlayOn/PlayLater software to expand what the roku can stream and to be able to record programs for playback on the roku.

The real problem is finding enough shows that are really worth watching out of billions of shows and movies out on the net.

I used to have direct tv at my old place and just added a box to my boss' account for like 10 bucks. Loved it! But when I moved, I couldnt bring it. Now the woman and I live off the 2 roku boxes for netflix. If direct tv didnt have a contract, Id go with them in a heart beat. Dish is a joke and comcast is the devil. Just too bad direct tv has a 2 year contract
