So... how many of you have a glider pilot license ?

I've got my glider certification and in my opinion there is no better way to fly. This video does it no justice. The line at the end couldn't be more true.

We have a gliding club close by and I enquired for a glider pilot license couple of years back..
Its a 6 months course which needs daily dedication of atleast 4 hours which I could not.

You won't believe it, but the club we have here is the cheapest in the whole world compared to the per ride price. It used to cost 5 USD couple of yrs back now its 6 USD for a 10 to 15 min flight. But the gliders are not that advanced.

No licence.

But tried backseat with 1 of the best gliders in Denmark when i was a kid, really awsome ride, but not as insane as the short helicopter ride i got in Normandy back in 1986. ( or there about )

For 10 minutes i really belived i was going to join all the brave men who gave ther life there in WW2.

I am allso sure if that pilot is still alive, there is no way in hell he is allowed to fly like that in these ball-less EURO whiner days. :)

Wow that's cheap. The fuel to tow the thing up in the air would cost more than that here. We have scenic glider rides at the local airport. I went when I was a kid and just remember how loud it was. I was expecting it to be quiet since there wasn't a motor.

When I was taking flying lessons I flew a glider with my instructor. Cessna 172 lost a cylinder about 5 miles from the airport. Not a pleasant experience for a 40 hour pilot, but hours in the logbook it was.

The ones here are sent up in the air using a winch method. They have an engine at the end of the runaway with a long wire rope running from the engine to the glider. The glider is simply pulled by the wire rope up to take off speed. Once the glider reaches a certain height the pilot pulls a yellow knob that releases the wire from the glider. In this type of launch, he ear drum definately finds sudden change in air pressure..:ror: The club is situated inside a city so they prefer a winch method as the gliders don't fly far away due to risk of crashing in civilian area. This is the reason the price is so low and another one is that it is funded by the government.

Yes, it is not quiet because of the air flow and resistance caused by the glider body.

Roughly how much would it cost there for a joy ride ? and how much flight time is available with that?

Cool to fly gliders"thumbsup"
So did the Cessana land safely? I am guessing it could glide back 5 miles considering its momemtum

We had a training area that started about 4 miles out and was 10 x 30 with no traffic except us. Luckily we were fairly close, and right at 7500 feet. drifted in without issue. I am sure they never filed one report out of that airport, pretty loosely run. Of course I never figured that out until trying to get into a larger airport and seeing how it is done there. Good times to say the least.

Always wanted to but I kinda exceed capacity, I used to fly RC gliders years ago. Could fly thermals for quite a while.

I just checked and all the prices are on there website. $220 - $410 depending on what part of the island you want to be over and what time of day you choose. They stay busy right through the whole tourist season. Website: Exciting Aerial Adventures! Biplane, Glider, Fighter and Scenic Rides

220 USD + OMG!!!!:shock: :lmao::lmao:
That was a shock for me!!
Those prices are actually a lot for even a person who lives and earns there...

And the time of flight too seems to be quite less...

Again owning a glider also has its own expenses.... Not a cheap sport for sure.

Another nice video with Jeremy Clarkson..

When ETA was lauched, it was buy on invitation only...

Used to hang glide in the '70s/'80s. Been fying RC sailplanes since '70. Most of my stick time is in turbine helicopters when I was a mechanic in the '70s/'80s. Dad (who was an ag pilot on cotton for 50 years) told me, when I said his had to be the most fun job ever, that it WAS fun for the first few years. Then became a job like any other. Only harder than most.
