WTF Tony Stewart

yeah thats gotta suck for the people who knew and loved that kid, thats horrible. however, he was a total complete idiot to go out like that. darwinian.

i would expect tony stewart of all people to be very aware of whats happening on a racetrack, it looks to me like he got as close as he could to that kid to roost him and nailed him by accident. it looks intentional or at least careless enough that i kinda think he should face charges and at the very least a suspension.

With the single video as evidence, no one can say for sure what TS did other than hit the guy. We don't know where he was on the track, if anyone was beside him, how fast he was or was not going, whether or not his tail was kicked out, etc etc. All we see is the kid step out further onto the track, point his finger, try to jump out of the way (which means he was standing at least squarely in front of TS' car), then get run over. For all we know, TS was originally going to go high (between the kid and his car), then swerved back down when the kid dove. We won't know anything for sure until we get more video.

I agree. We're all going off of this spectator video which is at about the worst possible angle to see the scenario in full. Hopefully more video will surface.

I still think it looks like he was trying to miss the guy at the last second. I think a lot of people who know nothing of dirt racing who are whining about the throttle would probably still be whining if he hadnt done anything at all, contesting that he didnt make an attempt to do anything.

Bottom line is (aside from the kid never getting out of the car in the first place), on dirt turning or braking wouldve made ZERO difference in the outcome.

I doubt criminal charges will be filed, unless there is some other video source(ie on Tony's car) that can prove otherwise.... but there will be without a doubt a civil case against Tony for millions.

Looking again, and again, and again, I can't help but think that Tony was trying to "blip steer" out of the way knowing how close that kid had gotten to his car, and at a moments notice tried to not clip him with the big as$ rear tire. (or just speed past him no knowing what he might try

Bullshit. They were under caution. Didn't see the guy on the track? More bullshit. All drivers have spotters on 2-way comms with them. And even if his spotter didn't catch the guy on the track, Tony sure did coming around...the track isn't lit with candles. There's plenty of light in the video, which in person, one would be pressed to say Tony didn't see him because he was wearing all black. He made a move to give the guy an "F U" back, and he simply miscalculated. Period.

I don't blame Tony one bit for this. The kid got mad jumped out of his car like a moron and stood in the middle of the track.... As said before dirt cars use the throttle to get through the turn it's alot different than pavement racing.

No two radios only racecievers which only the race directors have voice on. The lighting issue at that track sucks. Been there a few times. Cameras add a bit of misconceived light to a video. Of the two people involved the kid had more power at that time to be the smarter one.
Sad for everyone involved.

I don't know where people are getting that Tony hit the throttle or brakes etc. Realize there are other cars on the track much closer to the camera than Tony's so any exhaust being picked up is most likely not his. All I see is Tony coming off turn 3 to a kid dressed in black standing in the race line pointing his finger at him. The kid jumps back at the last second and gets clipped by Tony's rear tire that sticks out farther from the chassis than the front which makes the nose of his car point to the right momentarily as the kids weight is pushed by the rear tire.

I don't follow nascar in any way shape or form so I don't have any dog in this fight. I'm just a strong believer in Darwinism. Darwin always wins.

I think it was worse that that. He made a huge diving leap to get out of the way and still got killed. Getting clipped by a tire would have just broken his legs. I'm thinking he got mangled up under the car and was dead when he came back out.

Youll notice in the video that when TS's car passes the guy the rear of the car kicks in towards the lower part of the track, or away from the racer standing on the track. It could be completely coincidental but you here a throttle blip when this happens in the vid. This would lead one to think that the throttle was tapped when the rear of the car passed the racer standing on the track.

I could care less about TS or any other race car driver from any genre of the sport, but I am an enthusiast all around.

To me it does sound like he blips the throttle, but if that were the case the rear of the car would have stepped out towards the other driver, a lot of people don't understand how hard a sprint car is to steer, particularly to the right.

I never saw the reason for the kid to be pissed. He drifted up and hit the cushion and spun himself out. Maybe he thought he could get some local hero points by calling the "celebrity" figure out. It did not work out as planned. If he were truly pissed he would have met Stewart in the pits and got down. Stewart like him or hate him is a true racer. It was said he has raced 24-25 different kinds of race cars and won at some point in each. I really don't think Stewart would risk his career, fame and fortune by purposely trying to hurt someone.

Umm what?? What are you talking about?
They do not have two way communications in car. Each driver has a raceciever which is just basically a listening device. Earbud type hearing same as a two way set up. It is used just for race directors (flaggers, officials) to tell drivers orders such as line up orders, warnings, general directions. All drivers are on the same frequency. This applies mostly to lower classes of racing. About all sanctioned local and regional organizations require them nowadays .
If you go to about any dirt track race you'll see a team guy on the fence with a set off those annoying air traffics lights giving signals to their drivers. Kinda goofy looking.
My point is drivers don't have direct communication with their teams. I would say if the officials at this event would have had time or even seen what was coming they would have been in Stewarts ear.
Nascar and the likes all have two ways.

Some people just want to blame the other guy for everything.

Unless the still alive redneck stopped his car, then revved the engine, yelled **** you, and then chased the guy and took 3 or 4 tries to get him, I would say the idiot who got our of his protective cage in order to taunt a couple thousand pounds of metal and gasoline with nothing more than his human body probably earned what he got.

If I thought a famous racer screwed me over intentionally, I probably would have waited until things were chill, then smashed his hand with a giant wrench ending his racing career or at least his year. Only 20, he probably would not have done any time, and probably owns nothing himself to take in court. Being the guy who put a pro racers in check would be worth the arrest.
