What next?

Not sure where the best place to post this question is, but will start here and feel free to move it to a better start...

New to RC crawlers, and just finishing up my Dingo kit....enjoyed the build immensely....only had it out for a little testing in the backyard until the weather warms up! ....but thinking I may enjoy building/tweaking/testing as much, if not more, than actual driving -- although that may change once a get a chance to spend some time when it isn't freezing out!?!?

So it brings me to my question of 'what next'? With the weather the way it is, I might as well get started on my next build while stuck inside....just not sure what it should be? Given the enjoyment I got out of the first one, I'm pretty sure it will need to be a kit as well....

So far the Dingo 'feels' more like a good trail runner rather than a competition type rig, so thinking my next kit should be more in that direction, but not sure what as RTR's seem to be taking over with very few builder kits available? Maybe a Wraith? An SCX10 (not sure there are even any kits available)? Or something totally different? Not sure that I'm ready to go the route of the full on comp crawler - still want something that looks like an actual 1:1 vehicle!

I've seen many refer to the crawler hobby as an addiction - yes, I just might be afflicted (already) - figure having a second rig just helps the chances that at least one will be operable when the other one is "in for repairs/upgrades"!

Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

Well you have a 1.9 rig, so I say the next step would be a 2.2 rig. You could either get a wraith kit, or buy a bomber rr10 RTR and modify as you go. If you are looking for things to kill time you can start to build scale accessories for your dingo, or start a scale garage. From my experience you will be constantly upgrading parts and working on your current rig once you start driving it. There will be times where all of my crawlers are down needing repairs, or you just get the itch to try something new. If you are feeling more adventurous try your hand on bending metal and brazing, Or work on some styrene work and a hard body.

I currently have 1 scx10 and 1 twin hammers drive able. Not driveable 2 scx based rigs, another twin hammers(for the wife) a 6x6, and 2 CCo1's. I spend way more time building and fiddling with them than driving them, but do enjoy the long trail runs we do take.

As far as the next step, build yourself a performance type rig, whether 2.2 or 1.9 you can hand the controller to a friend and let them dominate the trail with you.

If you want a pre-made kit then a Wraith Spawn kit or maybe even a Yeti kit.

Or if you take your building fun outside the pre-made kit box, you could do a China Jeep build using a GCM Racing Skeleton Chassis axles of your choice.

Went ahead and order a wraith kit -- with the three day weekend coming up, figured I better get something here to work on! Will build/run it stock first, but not sure yet ultimately what direction I will take it --- been looking at some of the wraith builds with narrower axles and 1.9's and really like the look of some of those, so maybe that direction?

blarouche, I've been really interested in trying some metal bending/brazing, just to experiment!

creeper, I can see I may be similar in spending more time building/tinkering than driving, but would really like to try some long trail runs once the weather warms up - you bring up a good point about having a second controller so that I can take a friend along to run one of the rigs with me!

k7, I was really tempted to try a scratch build effort as you suggest -- chickened out at the last minute and went with the kit! Figure I'll get one more kit under my belt before trying to build something from parts!

Rider, just saw your post....that is the direction I was really planning on going....had located one and then before I could order they were out of stock and couldn't find them anywhere after that!?

Well you have a 1.9 rig, so I say the next step would be a 2.2 rig.

Could also swing the other direction and go super scale with 1.55 tires.
