The title says it all...

GO.

No, really.. I have been using a setup like my grand dad for a while now, brush/cup, soap block, and a 50s Gillette and want to know what you think of different blades and soaps. Personally I'm fond of both shark and feather blades, although feathers are almost too sharp. And soaps are worse than crawler tires as far as what's available and how subtlety different they all are, personally again, very fond of the tallow based soaps like the wsp formula t line and I'm waiting on a shipment of stirling soaps including the electric sheep!

No.

I use to carry a strait blade for hand 2 hand combat, but this was before hair started to grow on my face in any ammounts worth mentioning.
After a while i changed to a "small" home made stiletto, just as sharp and less easy to take from me.
And my practise wooden strait blade kept breaking  the wooden practise stiletto allways worked.
Allso by that time we all pretty much was packing, so the knife just became a addon god to have when camping, which in turn meant the stiletto was sold off to a collector that could appreciate my craftmanship on it.

Allways wished i could snap my fingers and then hair wouldent grow on my face, no matter the tool i allways hated to shave.

I use a DE. Shark blades ate up my face but Astras work pretty good. I havent tried Feathers yet but I will at some point. I'm using Khiels (?) as shave cream right now and I really like it.

For those of you thinking about switching to DE shaving, it can save you a lot of $$. It takes a bit of finesse and practice to figure it out. You cant just mindlessly run the razor all over your face like you can with a Fusion. You will get cut. But it looks cool, you can get almost as close of a shave, and you can get 100 quality blades for less than a 5 pack of Fusions. I swap out my blade every Monday. Not because I have to. Just because they are dirt cheap and I like a good shave.

The $ savings is nice but really it's the details that fascinated me. I'm automatically inclined to anything old, cars-motorcycles-campers-etc.. in days gone by they built things to simply last longer and be serviceable if they fail.

As far as soaps go, try a tallow based puck. Shaves super slick and if you make 2 passes it will be closer than any multi blade disposable

I made the switch four years ago and haven't looked back. It's so much cheaper, a better shave and I have no more razor bumps.

I use Merkur blades and have tried a few others but always go back. I started with Proraso shave cream and haven't felt the need to try anything else.

I have used poraso a few times with good results, I just placed a sizeable order from Stirling on a recommendation from badger&blade. Pretty excited to try the electric sheep.. I've read nothing but good things

In middle school I shaved the sides of my head with a double edge.

These days I don't even shave. Takes too much time away from crap I'd rather be doing so I'll just run the electric hedge trimmers all over the place but it's been months since I've even done that.

I'm Greek so I get 5 o'clock shadow by lunch and if I don't shave at least every other day it itches so bad I try to scratch my face off..

Are you comparing the quality of your new blade to that of a multi-blade disposable? I think that was your first problem. Disposables suck.

Compared for the sake of those who don't use a de razor..

Been a wet shaver for about 7 or 8 years now. Way better shave, I no longer hate shaving, and I don't get all the irritation I used to from the modern multi bladed plastic wonders. 1970 Gillette Tech adjustable (#2 for me), Derby Blades, and Proraso soap 90% of the time. BEST. SHAVE. EVER. "thumbsup"

I generally view all the multi bladed wonders like this;
