Yes, I agree. I don't mean to blame the shops or producers as such. But amain.com offers economy shipping to Europe and they are based in California, so if they can make it.. Why not others too?

AMain is a large enough outfit (on the level of Tower and Horizon?) where they can negotiate really good rates due to volume. A "mom & pop" outfit doesn't do nearly the volume, therefore less leverage to negotiate rates.
As a small vendor, you can try using a third party logistics service to get lower rates, as the 3pl service should be able to get better rates. However, you add a middle man that has to get paid, so the savings are debatable.
