What are the differences between the various Dx3 radios? The only thing I've read is the DX3E has no screen and only stores a single model and the DX3Pro uses the "Pro" receiver and that's about it. Not sure if the 3rd channel switch and programming is the same between them.

Which DX3 is best for scale crawling? DX3S,DX3C,DX3R?
I'm looking specifically for a DSM 1 radio to use with my collection of BnD Losi micro crawlers and DSM1 RXs
I'd like to be able to have multi model memory so that rules out the DX3e and DX3.0
For the 3rd channel I'd like the option of using winch & dig. Rear steer mixing would be cool, though not a top priority as I use hacked GT3Bs as my primary radios.

I'm mostly just looking for a radio compatible with the DSM Losi BnD ESC/RXs and DSM 3ch RXs that's nicer than factory and has a useful 3rd channel for scale crawling. Thanks!

From what I remember, the DX3 has a three position third channel. The DX3S (and I think the DX3.0 only have a two position third channel.
The DX3R has a three position third channel and many other features.

The above three position transmitters work well with my winch controllers. Others are hit and miss because there is so much jitter in the outputs. The winch can start moving / stopping because the servo signal doesn't like to sit still (where you left it) - it jumps around.

I think I remember reading about it having problems with your winch controller. These will specifically be used for Losi micro Crawlers with DSM1 I use a pair of your winch controllers on my 1/10s and they work great with my hacked GT3Bs

As far as the switch I think I've seen they can be modded to 3 position like the old TQ radios. I guess it's down to the DX3s,DX3c,and DX3R

Not sure what you're looking at for price on the DX3's, but I got my DX4C w/the SR410 rx (w/o AVC) for less than $100. I think it's a great bang for the buck with 20 model memory. I didn't think I'd ever need a four-channel until I got thinking about the winch, and dig, and light switching. I can get two-channel rx's for $30 for rigs that won't need accessories and have the AVC option should I ever want it.

I have a Hacked GT3B for 8ch I use on my 1/10s.
that price on the DX4 is nice, but I'd have to be 100% sure it had the early firmware that's DSM1 compatible. If it's not DSM1 compatible it won't bind to the losi Micro crawler ESC/RX combo

Hey spoo, if you find a dsm1 compatible radio would you please let me know where you got it? I sorta figured they were impossible to come by. I wouldn't mind having a spektrum radio to go with my dsm rx's. Thank you in advance!

...PM incoming.

They are on eBay often. Any model DX3 some DX4s with early firmware ( they can't be rolled back) and some cheap dxs that came with Losi kits

Sounds good. Pardon my ignorance but how would I know if it has the early firmware, if not specifically stated?

I've wondered that myself. They are cheaper than the DX3s it seems. I just don't want to assume they all roll off with early firmware. I'd imagine recent DX4's ship out with current firmware

^^ You and both. I was just going to stick with my flysky radio but I DO like the spektrum much more and if I can personally acquire another one that would work with my dsm rx's, I would do so with a quickness.

Spoo, did you buy that dx3c that was on ebay yesterday? I was bidding against SOMEBODY and wondered if it was you. I lost so was gonna give you some ribbing haha. Oh well, I'll still be on the lookout.

Lmao it was me! Nobody was watching or bidding, and as I bid at the last minute someone raised it to $81 from $75 lol. DX3c for 81$ shipping with an SR300 dsm RX isn't bad

I have a 5 year old dx3s. Finally got back into RC after a long hiatus. Should I be looking to upgrade the firmware on it? It's still working great and no issues.

I would say if its working fine you dont need to change anything with it. The issue spoo76 and I were dealing with was having receivers that work on the dsm band/frequency but not having access to transmitters that are of the same dsm band/frequency.

In my case I would have had to buy a new transmitter with a whole new set of receivers for each rc truck I own that are on dsmr or whatever the newest band/frequency is.

If I am wrong on any of this, somebody please correct me.

Your right Spoo76, the new DC4C has the updated firmware and will not bind to anything except the DSM2 and DSMR receivers, at least that's all my newer DX4C will bind to. A friend of mine has an early DX4C that he has not upgraded the firmware and I ended up giving him my older receivers the new transmitter wouldn't bind to. Can't remember the receiver numbers but he has had no problems and says he won't be up-grading the firmware on his transmitter any time soon.

Related to this topic, has anyone tried the SR3100 DSM2 3 channel receiver from China? About $12 on ebay, free shipping, but can take 4-6 weeks for delivery. No specs but could be worth a chance at the price.

They seem to work with DSM2 from what I've read. Not really useful for me. I have tried the 3000R which is DSM1 however it doesn't bind to the Losi DSM TX, and I've heard it only binds to some Spektrums, some of the time. The DSM2 version seems reliable from what I've read
