Tamiya Hornet And How I Got Into RC

I started with a Tamiya Grasshopper, complete with mechanical 3 speed motor control and 6 cell humpback nicad pack back in the early eighties. Next was Hotshot 4WD buggy, with the straight 6 cell pack, which I upgraded to ESC which cost about as much as the kit did, but no BEC. That still used a four pack of AA batteries. The Hotshot could easily go places that the Grasshopper couldn't but I remember drifting the Grasshopper was a lot of fun, even limited to a stick radio. I went through a few sets of tires and a lot of front end repairs, knuckles and steering links mainly, but both of them were a blast. It's nice to see that Tamiya still sells kits for the two of them. Now that I am older crawling seems to fit better, with a bit of bashing now and again.
