Jato Assembles a TRX-4 Sport Unassembled Kit

Ok I think what I'll do since the stock Traxxas motor is still going strong, I'll go with the 27 in the sport and have the 21 to try if I feel it needs it., Thanks!
"thumbsup"

I was really tempted to buy one yesterday with the eBay 15% but I just couldn't hit that button, if I didn't build two rigs this winter I would have been all over it.

If you don't have a TRX-4 you should get one! I'm sure there will be another eBay coupon in the spring or summer.

The upgraded brushed motors from HH's are really nice - I put one in my primary crawler. But really, it seems to run about the same as the sealed can Trailmaster, so I think I'll get the latter for the Sport with stock gearing to start. Can always adjust the pinion a little if necessary. I surely don't need speed on the rocks.

Don't forget LockedUP RC has STEEL portal caps and knuckles verses everybody else's brass. Same pricing or thereabouts. Not sure about pros and cons other than the steal will rust if it's not coated. Not an issue out here as we don't have any water to speak of and I don't like drowning trucks for other reasons. Anyway, just throwing it out there. Tons of options for weighting axles on the TRX.

I have a couple of YR Hackmoto 540 motors and really like them, and they're super cheap for a rebuildable motor with bearings, but looked yesterday and the 550 motor is a sealed can, not the same thing. Dayum. May as well get the HH ones then.

In terms of smoothness I think brushless has caught up to brushed from what my untrained finger can tell. Brushless has the advantage of no maintenance and longer run times. But with brushless comes the greater monetary investment and greater risk out on the trail. One advantage of sensorless, like the Revolver, is one less point of failure and one less area for water to wreak havoc on the electronics.

Every since I saw OSRC's Wraith screeching along the trail with his outrunner motor (not sure if it was a Revolver, specifically) I have been intrigued. I actually bought the Revolver with the intention of revitalizing my neglected Wraith, but then I had the small problem of not being able to find my Wraith.
It went missing after I cleaned my hobby room. It's still MIA so the TRX-4 benefits by getting the Revolver.

I saw LURC's steel parts. It is a consideration, but SSD's weight slightly more (4 grams each) and they look much better IMO. And SSD's aren't going to rust - ever. From what I can tell in photos, the LURC steel portal covers are just black oxide. That's just an assumption, but if that's the case the covers will rust over time since black oxide isn't the best for corrosion resistance. Think Axial's black screws and how quickly those rust. I love both company's products though.

Speaking of @OSRC, he contacted me last night and told me he ordered a Sport Kit as well and he suggested a build off of sorts since we go trailing together. I think it's a great idea. Mine will be built mostly box stock at first. Checkout his thread, when he starts it, to see what monster he creates! "thumbsup"

I picked up a few HH 550 21T cans myself.

Regarding the YR Hackmoto 540's. It's a good motor, but you might be able to get it cheaper when it's not branded "YR Hackmoto".

So I have a theory, that there's a crap ton of rebrands of the same motor, and I have a few of these different brands.

Some of the brands... Surpass Hobby, Snow Panther, GoolRC, Trackstar, etc.

It's here! I ran home at lunch to check it out. The build will start after work!

Start posting pics already!

:lmao: I will. I wish I could figure out how to get different sized embed links from the Imgur app or mobile website. It's really annoying trying to link photos from that site when not on desktop a PC.

Typing with touchscreens sucks sweaty nuggets as well.

This. Tapatalk works really well for posting pics

I trust Tapatalk about as much as I trust Photobucket. I bought the "Pro" version of Tapatalk on Android and then it went free for everybody and it was a downgrade. On iOS I see there's a free version and paid version. I'm using the free version because I'm not paying for Tapatalk again. And who's to say Taptalk won't turn their photo hosting into a paid service at some point?

I'll be posting build updates as the day goes along!

It is. Though I would call it a techno-whoosh more than a screetch. :flipoff:

It's on! Stock(ish) to start as a comparison: Jato's baller money electrics vs. my budget friendly setup. Hit the usual test area and see how it goes. After that, we'll make some mods within a certain budget and go at it again.

I'm excited. I thought it was a great idea when you suggested it! "thumbsup"

Let's hope the weather starts cooperating.
