any crawlers in MN?

Introduction

Howdy all,

I've been lurking on the forums for a few weeks now and thought I should introduce myself. I don't have much RC experience, I built a RC10 years ago and picked up a Nylint crawler last year which started the bug to build a real crawler.

I decided to go with a clod based crawler and am in the middle of building one - here are a few pics:

I still have a lot to learn but I hope to get it finished and at least make an attempt at the comp at the end of the month...

Welcome aboard Indy :)

Truck is looking good, I would recomend limiting the flex to around 60-70 degress though, looks like you are around 80-85? Having to much flex can be less stable and predictable on the rocks.

Looks like a very clean build so far, can't wait to see it out on the rocks all finished up :-P

I'll have to do some experimenting - I should be able add limiting straps of some sort on the rear shocks. I'll also do some searching and see what others have done...

You could use O-rings inside our ouside of the shock, on the shock shaft. Fuel tubing will work as well, either way will give you a clean look and limit the travel. I would just tone down the flex a little bit to start with, and enjoy the truck. You can always tweak it more after you run it a bit. If you have any questions with it, feel free to ask :)

Welcome Indy! It's great to see another Minnesotan on here.

It is looking like a good build. I would agree with these guys about the suspension travel, but I would say to experiment and see what works best for you. Like Etype said, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

See you on the rocks!

Ah, I'll have to try that - thanks for the tips!

Welcome Indy we allready have a Dave so from now on you will be known as Bill ...just kidding nice looking rig try taking out the preload spacers on the shocks it kinda looks like its riding high in the center of the chassi

My last 2 posts got locked (newbie rule???) so let's see if this one works...

Thanks all for the welcome and tips...I'll keep you updated on the progress. I hope to get some wiring done tonight.

So far, with just the battery sitting on the chasis, the wheelbase is about 16" and it has about 5" of clearance.

I've got a 645 laying here if you're interested. And a stock Tamiya esc that would work just fine to start with.

How's that wiring coming?

Didn't get to spend too much time on it but did get it together enough to play with the steering - 4 wheel steer is kind of cool but I already see a few things I want to play with/tweak...

Probably will get it finished this weekend - I'll let you know how it turns out.

how old is the servo, how many times has it been used, what condition is it in, and how much do you want for it. i may be interested in it for my first crawler to save some cash.
