1:20 RC4WD Grand Cherokee

Insane, what type of solder are you using, obviously low temp i guess.

FLux core electrical of some sort. It should hold fine with the minimal forces of this scale but we'll see. I am using a Mapp torch and Safty Silv 45t on the frame.

Depends on how much you're willing to compensate me.

Did RC4WD make any further progress on wheels and tires? Some .9" (18") wheels and 1.9" (38") tires with a similar compound to Losi Micro DT's would be the ticket.;-)

A little update...

Got the rear links made and mocked up. Now just have to figure out the springs in the rear and attach the drive shafts and I'll be rolling.
Sorry for the crappy pictures, my camera is old and has been thoroughly abused. You have to find a sweet spot for it to focus and usually takes a few tries to get a picture that doesn't look like a complete blur... the macro function is completely useless also. So, sorry.

Sorry for the delay, the flu came around.

Got the suspension completely finished and tuned along with the drivetrain and steering linkage. All that's left to do with the suspension is figuring out a panhard. I ditched the pin drive spacers, sacrificing strength for a narrower track width.

I tested it out and it needs more torque. The wheel speed is good but there is no low end control when climbing. I am not too happy with Losi Micro T esc either because there seems to be a throttle delay. It might be tolerable if I can gain some low end control with a 10:1 HP gear motor... as of now you have to mash on the gas to get it over a rock and that ain't going to cut it.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the roller.

Rear suspension and driveshafts all hooked up:

Steering linkage: Works well but loses some throw due to the lack of a panhard.

I cut all the crap off the back of the wheels and filed it flat then used my trusty Dremel mill to carve out the pin channels. Dremel mill in action (I love this thing):

I also had to chamfer the inner ring to fit over the front axle C's. Just chucked it up in a drill and filed it as it spun.

I am going to attempt to use a ZZ MT pcb and controller to run a winch. I don't know if the winch I have started on will be powerful enough so I may ditch that idea. I'll also use the lights form the MT for cosmetics until I decide I need functional (brighter) lights.

I guess it's on to paint details...

got a question about those tires? can you tell me what the I.D. is and how soft are they? thanks

They are SoReal Concepts TSL Boggers and they are the "softer compound". However, they are not soft by crawler people standards. If these are the "softs" the other compound is probably the consistancy of a Jaw Breaker. The I.D. is 20.50mm or 13\16".

thanks for the info. was thinking about using a set of these on the new Losi Micro

I like the looks of these tires but this isn't going to be shelf queen so they are getting replaced ASAP.

I'll probably cut-n-shut some losi micro claws when they come out.

These tires would be fine for dirt or playing around the house with but not rocks.

That is the problem with a build of this small scale. The weak link in the supply chain is the lack of tires. Even the best small scale builders have no recourse but to compromise on tire choice.

Several companies make great looking repop tires like the TSL's you have, but being primarily designed for detailing static models, the actual performance of the compound they use is not a priority with them...
