1/7 scale Traxxas

I believe the RR10 bomber kit comes with shock pistons that are 2 piece and can vary resistance on compression vs rebound by uncovering and covering holes in the piston.
 
I think my Tamiya Frog rear shocks had flexible valve discs on the pistons, remember building them when I was a kid in the 80’s....

The oil would push the disc out of the way on compression, and on rebound the discs would get pushed back against the piston and cover the holes.
 
traxxas already makes a piston like what mip was making a couple of years ago (same concept). the part# is 5461 and they call it a Variable damping kit and they should fit the udr
 
I would think TT's would run a small amount of anti squat so that under acceleration in the whoops the suspension would be able to work. Watching some videos of them and the amount of weight transfer they do during acceleration, I think that is the case.
I would agree, for the same reason

But gravity (and inertia etc) does not scale down directly from the 1:1 trucks, and the jumps that their RC counterparts are often expected to tackle are not quite to scale.
So what do you think the Yeti has, too much anti squat (>100%)?
I don't know what the numbers are for the stock settings, but it would seem on the high side. I did try the reduced anti-squat settings on my score for a bit before I converted it to irs, but I didn't like the side effects of less traction and more 'fishtailing'.

I hypothesize that the open diffs and avc function in the baja rey can make up for this somewhat. :shrug:
 
Looks like Traxxas has updated their site to Mid-April for availability.

traxxas still lists on their dealer site a date of march 9th. my guess is that is the date of the first shipment, witch are all demo/display trucks. what traxxas told us is first shipment is demo trucks then the 2nd shipment is the ones dealers can sell. 2nd shipment should be 2 weeks after 1st shipment, but traxxas won't sell the trucks untill 2 weeks after dealers get their retail units.
 
I just got an email from Traxxas saying they were in stock. Not sure what is really going on, lol.

Edit: looks like the email was triggered by it going on sale for preorder on traxxas’s website. Showing mid April as reported earlier. Lame.

It is possible. You can even separately tune either compression or rebound even if there is only one shock. Start with three holes in the piston. One for bleed, one for compression, one for rebound. Use two separate pieces of plastic disc to cover the compression hole and rebound hole. One plastic sit on top of the piston, one sit beneath the piston. Adjust size of the compression/rebound hole size, together with the number of plastic covering the hole to achieve a digressive damping curve.

One limitation is that this modification needs a reasonable large piston to work with. I only achieved this using the YETI XL shocks ( 16mm piston I believe), anything smaller is impossible to work with.
 
One idea I just thought of is to do something similar to the MIP bypass1 shocks (currently discontinued) where there is a valve that blocks some of the holes on the piston and moves more or less depending on how fast the compression/rebound is. On one shock the valve could be under the piston, and on the other it could be above the piston, essentially making one able to be tuned for rebound and the other for compression using different thicknesses of valves.

put the plastic disc on the other side of the piston, then you'd have a digressive compression curve. Rebound, IMO, is not very important to performance, unless rebound becomes super slow.
 
Exactly. ^^^^^^^^^^ Just takes time to dial them in. Hopefully there will be other spring options out soon if not already. Once somebody parts one out I'll be snatching the shocks, like they were made for my scratch program.
 
Somebody posted on the Traxxas forum that at the Mint 400 race this weekend that the Traxxas booth was going to have them for sale.
 
Looking forward to some real reviews and footage of this thing instead of the YT reviews selling you a product.
 
I orderd mine last week love me some trophy trucks.
. I have been racing the 1:10 baja rey. The only thing I have to complain about is the diff bearing size for the pinion it is way too small I am now running the SSD 3rd member and front diff and have had 0 issues
