1/8 Truggy going to Crawler

Well, I just got into Rock Crawling recently and bought a Mini Losi (Thanks to a buddy of mine keep crawling it over my foot).

Already pre-order the Losi 2.2, but dang, that thing is keep getting push back and I can't wait any longer. I had the Robitronic Mantis Truggy for a long time, kill the nitro engine, convert it to run a weed eater 23CC.... :D it was a blast... then I got bore with it and store it away... guess what? it's back.

- Strip everything apart.
- Use this, oh keep this... throw the other stuff away.
- Fix the axle... got some steel tube and jb weld... :)
- Locked the front and rear differential... I left the center diff. Planning on to use the break to kick in the rear/front Dig.
- Start cutting G-10.
- Dimension - 16x21inches tire to tire.

So, I am new to this, have no idea what I am doing half of the time... ok, enough of this, I will let the picture tell.

So I am open to any suggestion...

Looks like a good size from pic, but how big is it really? Are you planning to run Super or 2.2? 1st thing I thought of would be telescoping driveshafts instead of straight Dog/cup truggy style. You prob already knew that, so more pics of Mantis remains. . . I guess you might keep the tires/17mm whls and do a shafty Super? I like it-

It actually pretty big.... the rim is 3.5, so it's diffinately not a 2.2 class.

I am starting to worry about the drive shaft is not strong enough... but those are the stock shaft and I am not sure if I can buy any replacement that can work. I would have to buy the new trainy system and axle...

It 16inches wide and 21inches long, from tire to tire tips.
 
You haven't lost a step since you were out of it- Video plz. . . Nice build + interesting steering w/ Y and all indy like that, COOL

Hows the steering with the dual servos, that came out very clean... What about speed? I noticed you went with an outrunner instead of the monster inrunner you had. Time to get some tires and test it out...

When are we running the Losi's again?
 
Ohhh, I havent seen that material for along time. just making sure but is that the threaded nylon stuff? and where did you get it. MRC used to use that on the TK's

That steering is quite insane, I test run it yesterday and on 5volt nothing can stop it... imagine on 6V... :D

Yup, that other motor KV is to high and it's way to long and it hit the upper link.

Coming out 2morrow.


TeamSix, I am not sure what you mean, are you refering to the chassis material? These are G-10, Fiberglass composite, kind of like electronic board, but tuffer...
 
Yeah thats the stuff. its really strong material and easy to work with. where did you get it from>? I would love to make a chassis with that stuff. Bet it the thinner material works great for undercarriage protectors on tha axles.
 
oh for sure- just take up a few more mm diameter wise, but w/those meats and motor it might be necessary. . . clean up twice as many splines if you have to lengthen, but prob would'nt touch 'em again! It looks like a production job on the axle tubes huh? sweet
 
The biggest issue going with a different shaft is you can't find one that ouput Universal Joint on one end and Dogbone on the other. I will take the center diff apart to see if I can find a new outshaft to place the current one that output universal, so I can convert both join to universal.

Also, I have look at the Revo axle... it might be to short...

Just got done with the top accessory plate... for the esc and rx. I am going nut with this thing and can't stop... :D But hey, it raining outside, so nothing better to do.

That rig is looking great so far. With that kind of stance you could throw a set of paddles all round and have one stable FOFF rig ( multi tasking at it's best! ). What body are you planing to run?

Will be definately watching this build

Hey Cruise.

Like I mention, I just got into this so I am not sure which body out there that would be the best fit for this thing. The size is a bit off to other standard models. Any suggestion?

I am looking at the Axial Oversize Narrow Rockster Beadlock and the Proline Moab 40 Series XL Tire. Any idea if this would work? The stock rim is 3.5x2in.
 
Updates

Took it out for some test this weekend, it did pretty good... Only a couple of problems. The droop shock system is insanely COOL... :D

- Need new tires.
- Bigger rim to get more ground clearance
- Bend lower link.

The little aluminum tower on there keep spinning, so I have to cut out a new tower out of G-10. Got the rear bend link done, still need to do the front.

Tires and Rims should be here 2morrow. Yay.

Ready to Rock and Roll!

Yay, got it done.

Added:

- Front dig and rear dig
- Varible front and rear drive (meaning I can control the spin on front and rear wheels.
- Put in a second stage of gear got it down to 15-1... work great... this thing is so slow!
- Planning to run on 3s 2200 or 4s 2200
- Put on the stock body... look alrite.

WILL POST VIDEO SOON.

One last thing, still need to narrow down the wheels...

Coming out great man...

I'm definately interested to see how the variable power to the front and back works out in tough climbs, I bet you it really helps being able to adjust the slip to front and back vs just digging.

Now you need to build a lathe so you can turn your own wheels and get the offset you need to bring your width in that you want.
