Hey crew long time no post(lol) So i bought a little light system for my car, question is instead of using the cig lighter to run it,can i use an off/on switch and a lipo to run those 12v lights?

Can i buy a on/off switch and use my lipo to run the light system?
I know it's possible, just to much to plug into the cig lighter....lol
Would just like an on/off switch and a lipo battery.

Thanks again crew.

Hey Frank!

What kind of light are we talking about and whats the amp draw?

Personally I wouldnt want a lipo integrated into my cars. I would wire it in using a switch and relay (plus an inline fuse), without a relay you're likely to melt the switch as they're typically not meant to carry a lot of amps.

Heres a how to vid I found with a quick search if you want wire it in with a switch and relay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmiqUZ0sRt4

What's up my Mr. HumboldtEF,how's it going? Its a car interior led strip set.
Multicolor.
I'm asking about converting it cuz my Cig lighter kinda shady...lol
What I'm thinking a small mah 3cell,its not like imma run it for hours. Plus just for some reason lipo seems right for this. Less wires per say???

I'm so confused?

First off if running lights on a 1:1 you don't wire in a battery, use the vehicle battery. Unless it's a giant light bar, led lights can run for a long ass time without causing battery issues. I run my lights off my truck battery and I have full Diode Dynamics light systems. My bed rack flood lights I leave on for an hour or more at a time without a loss in battery charge that matters. If just my rear floods, had them on for 3hrs and my battery didn't even notice.

A little rc lipo isn't going to run much for light for very long. 5000mah is 5 amps for 1 hour (and that's putting the pack down to 0 which ain't great on longevity of the lipo).

Never EVER plug a lipo into a vehicle power system directly. If you start that engine with that lipo plugged in the lipo will blow in a short time (vehicle alternators charge well beyond what a 3s lipo can take).

A 3s lipo can run a 12v light but it's not going to be efficient and full brightness for very long.

I'm still gonna recommend not using a lipo battery and wiring the light into the vehicle.

You could replace your sketchy cigarette lighter (or 12v power if its newer) or wire an additional one in thats hidden and tucked under the dash. Make sure to add an inline fuse if you do add a new power outlet.

My new car has a hidden 12v power outlet behind that glovebox which is a nice touch.

Sure you could likely power this with a lipo (again whats the amp draw?) but you'll have no low voltage protection. If you're really set on batteries grab a 12V AA battery pack to use instead https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=12v+aa+battery+pack

Also if you integrate a switch with a battery it will need to be able to handle the amperage the battery is putting out, most switches aren't rated to handle many amps.

Again I'm not a fan of the battery idea, just trying to explain what you're up against.

As was said, wire it into your car. If you don't know how - get help.

Just the fact that you're here asking about a lipo battery for your lights suggests that you shouldn't do it.

Guy's, guy's, i just kinda like a plugn play kinda thing. I just ended up cleaning out the cig lighter and now just using it. LOL. Many thanks guys.
