17mm Hex conversion and 1/8 wheels and tires

Why do I not see more of this?

Loss of Scale look?

Durability?

At first glance it seems like a nice set of buggy or truggy tires would weigh less, have less sidewall flex, be more durable, and cost less. It's a similar OD to keep gearing simple.

What about the wide rear axle kit and one of the gazillions of 12mm hex options?
 
In my opinion, 1/8 wheels put a lot more stress on everything that has to hold, steer, accelerate and brake the larger wheels due to the larger momentums at work.

According to my scale, a full set of mounted 1/8 buggy tires weighs about a 1/2 pound less than a set of 2.2s on plastic beadlocks.
