Hello! I recently purchased the new JConcepts F-250 trail body. My goal is to make a mini version of my old truck.

I'm looking for some paint suggestions. The truck is a forest green. Tamiya seems to have the closest color in a Metal Green, but it's still has a little too much lime color to it. Needs little more blue tint. They have a green that's a little darker, but has no sparkle to it and army looking.

Can anyone think of a closer color? If I do end up going with the metal green, would it be best to back it with black? My goal is is to detail the body as much as possible. I may attempt scratch building the canopy also, but that might be a winter project.

I'm sure many will tell you why not, but I went to the auto parts store and got custom mixed car color and painted my Lexan body. Mine turned out to be a match for a 2011 Mazda color. It's an on-road truck, but so far it's been wheels-up a few times and the paint is staying on really well.
I guess it depends how rough you're planning to be on it. :D

The Auto parts store is a good idea. This won't be a hard core truck like my JeepSpeed, so I'm not too worried about paint chipping off.

Here's the first test fit. Tag says its 12.5 wb, but it fits the 12.3 just fine. Wonder if it's an error.

I like that it even has stake pockets.

More to come.

If you can find it, Pactra Chazzoom Teal is close with a black backer. RC291 is the ref number.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at those colors.

Here my progress for now. There is actually a surprising amount of detail on this body.

It's been a while since I followed up on this thread. Here the body is in color. Still needs some detailing, but happy with the result so far.

Not too far off from my old diesel

DOH! i was going to say if you spray window tint Tamiya "PS SMOKE" it darkens colors and adds a cool amount of depth to the finish. but its painted already. and looks GREAT!!!
there are a couple of us ascender odd balls currently building Jconcept F series too. me a 79 and SMOG an 80. love seeing all these jconcept fords!!!
nice 1:1 too!
also... *cough*
Pro10 1.9" Steel Stamped Beadlock Wheel (Silver)
;)
don't forget the home depot or tractor supply gift card holder to put in the back of your bed as a tool box.

last, let me know if you track down a any of those folding mirrors. i have seen some on shapeways but i think there is an axial detail sprue set that has them.

Truck looks great OP. As Shinchu pointed out I am also going to paint up a Ford body to bring back my old F150.

@Shinchu , do you have a link to the Shapeways mirrors by chance?

You can't put 6 lug rims on a hd 3/4 ton...

8 lub or nothing...

lol,

Mirrors are on the axial mirror set AX80038

Thanks guys! I picked up the Axial detail parts tree. Unfortunately this body is big that it dwarfs the mirrors, windshield wipers, etc. so they won't look right. I may attempt to fabricate my own mirrors and toolbox sometime over this winter when I actually have time.

smog, i don't have a link but i just type in "rc scale parts" in the search. i have spent hours on shapeways looking at stuff lol

i know the lugs are wrong and that kills me too. i have been trying to find 1.55 sized 5 lug versions of the American racing wheels my dad had on his 79. REC wheels are exact but no longer made. found a guy who has a set here but i dont have the spare arm and leg it would take to get them from him. i might have to settle on a set of 1.55 from CROSS rc and paint them silver/chrome.
i have also played with the idea of making the lugs correct by removing the lugs, putting a washer over the original surface, and drilling the desired pattern/number of lugs through both the washer, wheel, and maybe into the wheel hub and tap threads in the hub to hold it all together with scale hardware.
its a mofo but it could work if you really want scale accuracy.

nightjeep, can you post a pic of the axial mirrors just held up against the door of your body? if those really are too small, kyosho just released a "vintage" body 1/8 scale truck with a set of folding mirrors. I'm waiting to see if we can just get the "body details" separate form the whole body. might be a good fit!

i love all this vintage ford body stuff on here lately!!!

I was looking at some nice Shapeways 3D prints for the Tamiya Blackfoot (F150), but again they don't appear to be big enough for the JConcepts F150. Too bad because they are well done
