I've been searching all over the forums but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. I'm building a custom crawler around an emeryworx chassis based on a bomber platform. Nothing is stock except the steel gears in the transmission/transfer case. My question is; will the tekin fx-r 30t pro be a good set-up with a 2-speed tranny? I've already purchased the system so suggesting a different system isn't in my interest, but opinions on the fx-r and suggested pinion/spur sizes would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Is this for a fast or slow setup?

A 2sp for decent wheel speed on 3S and good crawling ability is smart IMO.

You can only go so fast with a brushed setup as due to the weight of the Bomber, you'll overheat motors if you push too hard but for a crawler, IMPO you don't want too much top speed as it has a drag brake and locked diffs, crawler suspension etc. I would imagine my Bomber does 23kmh on 3S and gets to about 60 degree C at 25 degrees C ambient after some bashing. Maybe around 55C after some moderate crawling.

I run a HW WP 80 + Titan 550 21T which is about a 28T 540 equiv on 3S with 12/64 in my RR10 and it's an all round great truck on 2.2's.

I will possibly gear down in the summer to a 11T or even 10T pinion which is about it for the RR10 but I will also very likely consider a 2sp in the future for better crawling ability (extended slow crawling seems to get things very hot).

I'm very impressed with the brushed setup thus far over brushless as it's plenty fast and crawls great with affordable replacement of motor/ESC should I ever have problems. I actually prefer brushed in our crawlers for these reasons.

Thanks for the reply! I gave a lot of thought before making the decision to go with the fxr 30t and a 2-spd. I have a 55t in my scx10 with a single speed. Its got plenty of torque but not much wheel speed ar all. I figured with a 30t and 2-spd, the lower gearing would make up for the 30t's lack of torque and have more wheel speed than needed in the higher gear in case I ever needed it. I could be thinking wrong but I think its worth a try. If it performs poorly, I'll just go with something different but maybe ask other opinions BEFORE making the decision, lol. As fars as spur/pinion, just gonna start with stock and see how it does. trial and error - "thumbsup"
