2012 elections

I wish ever vote counted.

We live in a democratic republic, not a pure democracy. If we lived in a pure democracy, 1 vote could change every election. There is a reason for the electoral college. It gives the small states some voting power, and does not basically leave them "voteless".

I always thought the electoral college was put in place because they didnt want us uninformed americans running the country.

I would like to see on the ballot a ya or na vote on obamacare. Let the people vote and see what they really want.

I'm not implying anarchy. I think one way to send a message is to not vote, not play their game.

Many argue that the most logical reason to not vote is the EC (electoral college).

When only 30% max of the populous votes, what message does that send?
It says that 70% dont give a crap, that they are sheeple!

As far as the electoral college, read up.

You try messin with the forefathers, you will find alot of people that you dont want to mess with.

What we somehow need to get is a federal initiative process. They dont do their jobs, fine, we will vote on what we want directly! Problem is how do we do that? They sure as hell wont vote for it.

Zombies are scary. Even moreso when they're a few hundred years old.

Harper is masquerading as small government, fiscal conservative, yet his actions aren't inline with any of it.

he was handed a surplus and is now running a deficit (although this is nothing new with conservatives they haven't had a balanced budget in 100 years)

So? Are you that surprised?

Bush did the same thing. Been there.

cuts old age security as a cost cutting measure yet doubles prison spending with mandatory minimum sentences for pot growers that are longer than that of child rapist and pedophiles. not even gunna get into how ineffective that shit is in the first place

lying about the cost of new fighter jets to the tune of 10 billion dollars...

spending 12 million in advertisement for his new budget, yet closing student employment centers to save 6 million

information control by muzzling scientists.. cutting environmental regulatory agencies.

Hasn't happened yet, SS is pretty much bankrupt.

They're buying 3,000+ crap jets at 1 trillion dollars,

Same here.

Probably doing that too.

I'm aware of your frustration with your government, If you want to complain go ahead."thumbsup"

What I'm interested in is this odd obsession with American politics.

I live here and I don't give a rats ass what happens to my fellow Americanos.
I only read these threads to guess-estimate whats happening, I don't watch news or visit crackpot blogs.

It's not my place to complain about Canadian politics on an American forum.

I find it sad that you say you don't care what happens, everyone should care.
Apathy is probably one of the biggest failings of this age, especially when the politicians see most people are so self absorbed in their own day to day that they get a bit more slack on the line we let them run on you know?

I don't watch any TV but I do try to stay informed about what happens around me. IMO America is kind of like the Canary in the coal mine, I see shit happening down there and especially with our butthead Prime Minister, its trickling this way. Only with information from outside perspectives can you defend yourself against it. things like Mandatory minimum sentences, privatizing prisons...) I gotta go to work not

have a nice day

Don't you know? Everybody loves a dog and pony show! "thumbsup"

The issues I'm interested in is: High food prices, High oil prices, illegal foreclosures, and Financial fraud. Very few share that interest, most are emotionally arguing over Healthcare,Guns,War,Drugs, etc.

You can't change people easily, I live and let them live. If they wind up hurt, eh thats one of the dangers.

That makes sense.

Thanks.

That's odd we use Canada as an example of how over reaching social programs create higher taxes and more unemployment.

an interesting article i stumbled on..i guess we are doing ok right now despite how terrible its supposed to be here
How did Canadians become richer than Americans? - The Week
i agree very much with mr slave on the canary in a coalmine thing..we are very close as countries and generally whatever trend is happening in the u.s. is only a matter of time till we could be in it..i think its good to look beyond your own back yard if you really want to know the score

Does that have anything to do with you guys importing rich people from Hong Kong?;-)

oh ya been doing that since before hong kong switched over:ror:

I'd say #2 and #3 on that list are the biggest reasons. You're richer because we're poorer than we were, and that is because we got played by Wall Street.
i agree, i didnt put it up to gloat either..we are lucky to have had it as good, there were bailouts here just not nearly as bad..and the whole war thing hurt you guys.. just wanted to reply to canada being used as an example ..we arent a bad example..not the best either
