Multi part question here....

If I want to make the switch for durability, what are my definitive options? I've read all the stickies of course, just looking for a condensed and comprehensive list. I noticed someone in another thread stated that Duratrax Evader spurs are a direct bolt-on. I know there is the option with a super shafty as well. Just a little fuzzy on a definitive parts list to go in either direction.... And with that:

Secondly, if the switch to 32p pinion and spur is made, does that also mean I need to change the bottom gear and the idler gear to the same format?

Thirdly, I'm aware of the change for durability, but do you still get the same low-speed resolution with a 32p format? I would assume the more teeth, the more low speed control? Enlighten me.

Finally, can whoever replies to this list your gear ratio and which format it is.

Its the lower number that will give you lower end for crawling. And no you don't need to change any other gears. I used a 32 pitch, 60tooth spur gear from traxxas and a 12 tooth pinion on the motor.

Duratrax 56T 32P here with 12T pinion. HH 16T Crawlmaster/BRXL
Perfect setup for crawling, IMO, plus has plenty of zip if I need it.
32P is a bit more noisy than the 48P stock stuff, bit I don't worry about stripping teeth.

As stated, nothing needs changing in the tranny (as long as they are metal gears)

Can't address the Traxxas setup as I've never tried it.

Thanks that helps a lot!

One thing I'm not getting is how less teeth translates into more low end resolution? From an engineering standpoint, more teeth=less movement of the output shaft per throttle input and therefore more low end control?

Can someone who knows the science behind why 32p would give more control please enlighten me?

its not that it gives you more control 32 - 48 is the degree of the pitch on the gear tooth.
32* pitch has more surface per tooth then 48* pitch there for is more durable then 48* pitch and can take the demands of higher speeds.

It's not the pitch of the gears that gives better low speed control it's the ratio. The lower the ratio the better control you achieve. 11/60 gives better low speed control than say 14/54..

We switch to 32p gears for the increased strength that is associated with the coarser gear pitch.

Cool man thanks.

No problem.
Being a journeyman heavy duty mechanic the hole scale truck thing come natural to me.

Thanks for finishing that.
Was stuck in a ferry line heading to Vancouver island, and the kids need to get out of the truck so I cut it short.

I'm running 56/12 with an Axial stock 27t motor in my Wraith right now. It's a little slow, but when I put in the 3800, I'll go to a 9t or 11t pinion. Not sure, I have them both in my box so worth a try.

The thing I like about 32p is it's a little easier to set the mesh for people new to it. You can still use the paper trick when all else fails.

i run 14/54 32p traxxas spur with pro4 3300 and have zero issues with low end control. It is not as good as my brood handwounds on my xr but very good for a brushless motor that can do the best of both worlds crawling and chuckng mud!!! As far ar the trannny goes the only reson to change any of the gears is because of the powwer you run. Near stock motor no changes required but if you up your motor power you will have to change the tranny gears.
