4 links on otherwise stock clod

Long time lurker on these boards, but don't post very often. Have a question about Clod Modding.

I have a Clod that I want to keep as stock as possible, but just make a few mods to iron out some of it's inherent problems. I've already made up a couple of brackets to mount separate servos on each axle for some good old fashioned BTA steering, but also want to fit a 4 link system (the components of which will be hand made). Whilst it's fairly obvious where the the links at the middle of the chassis go, I'd just like to know where the other ends attach to the axle.

There is a CPE kit that will fit to a stock clod chassis, and all it seems to consist of is the actual links without any additional mounting brackets. If there is anyone with a similar set up, I'd be grateful if you would post pics or point me in the right direction. (I saw a guy who'd done exactly that on the Clod Gallery section, but given he posted his pic in 2007, I wasn't sure whether he'd still be here or still have his Clod in that state!)

Our stock clod 4-link conversion kit doesn't require any additional mounting brackets, so that's why we don't include any.

so do the shocks mount to the carriers after drilling some new holes??

They actually mount via a clamp to the ends of the upper 4-links themselves. You could also mount them to the stock Clodbuster gearcase braces if you fabbed up a bracket for them.

I am in a process of doing a crawler clod using "stock" axels. My problem is that I havent fig. out how to do the 4 link to the axels. Pretty much using everything right now except the chassis. Using dif. chassis. My brain hurts as I have been trying to work on things in my head today mostly all day on how I am gonna do things. Open to any suggestions/help/info from any and all pls.

Well, with a stock-ish chassis (like an ESP or Sassy Chassis), you'd simply mount your upper/lower links on the chassis the way they're pictured above.

If you have a different aftermarket chassis, your upper links would typically mount using an upper 4-link mount that takes the place of the stock Clod steering servo saver parts. We offer P/N CPE-4LMTHD as our upper 4-link mount (shown below).

Ok I know this might sound stupid and probbaly is but where/how do I mount the lower links to the axels? This is what is stumping me on stock clod axels?

Just like this. You'll need to drill a 1/8" hole in the bottom on the axle tube to mount there. Just mirror the location of the upper one that's already there.

why not offer a complete 4 link kit for the clod incuding the clamps & conical washers that the website says are required for the kit???

We do offer all those parts on our website, just not in a single kit. Many people have some or all of the other parts so there's no need to duplicate parts.

Hello, I just recently purchased my first clod (a used one off ebay)after wanting one for more than a decade. It is mostly stock, it has s set of Trinity monster horsepower motors ('87 world champions! Lol) with 13t pinions, a rooster esc, some low quality oil socks, and I made my own lift plates for it. It runs good and all but the stock plastic suspension arms need to go. I've been thinking about this kit that you have been discussing but have some questions. Are there enough pieces in one set of the conical washers on cpe's site to do the whole 4-link swap or would more than one set be required? Also, do the 4-links connect to the stock balls on the chassis or is there hardware required there also? And what about the other nuts and bolts connect the links to axles? And one more thing, where can I find the heavy duty steering links pictured from the servo on the chassis to the axles? Thanks for any help.

One set of our conical washers will cover the installation of this 4-link conversion kit.

You would need to supply mounting hardware for the rod ends in the 4-link kit, and both #4-40 and m3 size hardware will work. The stock Clodbuster uses m3 hardware, and most people have extras of that laying around.

The links pictured from the servo to the axles are our P/N CPE-STR4.

thanks for the reply, I was beginning to wonder if I'd get a response since the thread is so old. I actually ordered two sets just the other day, but extra parts are good to have. This is especially true since, like I said, this is my first clod and I've been out of the hobby for probably a decade. I don't need there steering links since I broke the rear servo saver and made my own lockout and front axle mount, but thanks anyway.

I am having an install issue in which I could use some assistance. I have installed the CPE-4LCLOD12 4-link kit in the rear thus far but am experiencing restricted movement like the motor is in the way. Looks like the lower links cause the motor to angle down into the links thus restricting movement. The axle will rock from side to side but will not allow enough room for even the stock shocks to fit??
1-which direction do the conical washers face?
2-should I be using standoffs to bring the links away from the chassis to make more room?
3-do I use more than 1 conical washer per bolt?
I am mechanically inclined but I am doing something wrong. The pictures in this thread and on the CPE website give me a general idea but don’t show me enough of the hardware to figure out what I am doing incorrect.
I’m using all M3 hardware.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
