[4x4LOYR]

Well, I've been away for some time ... but, my boys and I jumped back into the R/C rock crawling with 2 feet lately, and have a couple of rigs up and running. (My scaler JK SWB project is still sitting in pieces on the hobby table in the garage, but these 2 new runners are keeping us busy for now.)

We forgot to take photos during the build process, but we do have some "just after building" photos.

Chassis: Gmade R1 Rock Buggy
Rims & Tires: stock Gmade R1 2.2
Radio & Transmitter: 4-channel 2.4 GHz FHSS
Motor & ESC: Novak Goat 3s Ballistic 21.5T
Servo: MG946R, 208oz Torque Metal Gear Servo
Battery: Venom Lipo 3S 5400 mha
Optional parts: High clearance lower control arms, LED light (2 light & 3 light) bars, front & belly skid plates, aluminum steering knuckles

On order: dig system, different shocks, battery plate, additional body panels

Issues so far:
2 of the shocks leak constantly (seems the caps don't screw into the bodies very well.)
Lost the front driveshaft pin at the transfer case after just a few minutes of running (after having the whole rig together, it is not going to be easy to get at the pin location.)

Very nice set up you have on the R1, remaining weak point is the tires.

Apply a small amount of silicon sealant to the shock end cap threads - this will stop most of the seapage.

Interesting to see the Wraith alongside the R1 - the Wraith might be more scale looking but i much prefer the R1 looks, just something about the low body cage and big wheel at each corner stance that i love.

Teflong Plumbers tape will seal the shocks up as well. Just cut a narrow strip for each shock and wrap around the threads clockwise two full wraps before putting it all together. Been working on my G-made Zero shocks for over a year now.

Would you happen to have a part # listed somewhere for the shock o-rings, or a size listed somewhere in the manual somewhere?

How much of a drop is built into the portals?

I have two sons, and it just so happens that they have picked the one they like: my 7 y.o. likes the Wraith --> it's faster than our other crawlers, it does doughnuts, and it jumps. My 9 y.o. likes the R1 --> it is better at crawling, it has better articulation, and he thinks it looks better.

Myself, I probably prefer the R1. Especially because of the terrain were we wheel our Jeep at, it's fun on the rocks.

Question for you being you have both a Wraith and R1:

Can you measure the widths of each axle from outside of hub to outside of hub on each? They look close...

I was thinking of building a set of wraith axles to put under my R1.

oh, ditch the stock shocks. I put 110 rc4wd dual springs on mine and they are perfect!... hugs the terrain.

Thanks. We've got new wheels and tires on order. I cut some of the foam out on the R1, but I agree, after wheeling the R1 quite a bit this weekend, the tires didn't/wouldn't grip and/or form onto the rocks ... we had a lot of wheel-spin.

I will try the silicon sealant, or the plumbers' tape, as someone else suggested on the shocks. But, I've got new ones of those on order, too.

Hi mate, nice cars. I've got a complete normal R1 and a custom one I m building with RC4WD axles, dual motor rig.
What I noticed with the shocks is that they leak UNTIL you really apply pressure to the stroke by hand meaning really force them home and they seem to go a couple of extra millimetres which squeezes out a tad more oil, since that I've had no sign of leakage.
Also really really over tightened them.

With regards to the rc4wd dual spring shocks which I have and tried, they are tragic! Tragic! Tragic! The spring spacer grips the shock body during travel, travel isn't as much either. Very lumpy shock.

The Gmade one is actually quite a good shock, having actually just ordered a second set for my custom R1.

By the way I'm doing a build on this forum now ongoing.
