I have been working on this on and off for what seems like forever. I love driving friends shafty rigs for kicks and can't wait to get this finished up. The chassis is a hand cut BJV4 style shafty. The axles are AX10 with long beef tubes, XR shafts, C's, lockouts, and knuckles. On the trans is a CF motorplate I made for the 454 motor. But I have a BWD plate for a 540 motor as well.

The chassis sits forward a bit. The rear axle has an Underground Crawlers D-Link upper link mount. I cut the posts down so that it sits flush on top of the pumpkin.

I copied Chris the Battery Man and clearanced the universals for more steering angle. With the long tubes the axle is almost Identical width to my XR. It sits at 11.25" wide in the front and 10.75" wide in the rear.

On the front I drilled a stock servo plate for upper link mounting. I used an aluminum link plate mount, and bolted a battery tray to it.

The servo is one from Hobbyking that runs straight off a 3s pack.

Sven was kind enough to let me try his XR10 lockout slug holder. Unfortunately it doesn't work on my XR because the front axle case on the rear axle interferes. However they fit perfectly on a rear XR axle case with stock lockouts. They also work great on the XR lockouts on this rig.

Here you can see they tuck in nicely. 600 rear hubs. This would look the same on an XR.

The weight retainer holds VP LH weights. I have 4 (2oz) on each side. This is a really sweet setup, and I already have ideas of how to make it work on my XR with the front case on the rear axle.

What a great build. I really like the rear weight for the axle lock-out especially. I wish some one would come up with a Weight kit for my STRC equipped Axial axle, or for that matter stock lock-outs.

That's easily the coolest shafty chassis I've seen, good job Shelby"thumbsup" Glad to see someone used stock length xr shafts, I did the same to my ttc rig front and rear and I love the extra width and steering:twisted:

Sick, is all I can say."thumbsup"

Thanks Shelby!

Thank you. I am a big fan of the rear lockout weight being adjustable. Different tires are heavier than others and don't need as much lockout weight. It will be nice to be able to easily test different setups.

Thanks Casey, the scaler is getting the same treatment as soon as this one is finished. 8)

Pretty awesome SHelby!! Love the XR mods on the AX axles! "thumbsup"

Thanks Jimmy! "thumbsup"

What size pack would be sufficent for that servo for say, 3 comp courses? Are you going to run a cutoff?

Nice build also

I'm going to run the motor off 3s as well, so they will all share the same pack. "thumbsup"

Watch the gears in the HV300, the press fits have a tendency to loose grip after a few binds. If/when that happens I recommend doing this Hv300 fix They are an awesome servo when their going though, I believe torque wise they would rival the 7980, despite what the specs say. Plus they are a little quicker.

Nice looking rig"thumbsup"

Dope little trick.

And how do you run the servo straight off the 3s? Just wire the + & - servo lead directly to the battery connector with the signal wire to the rx?

Wow! That is just amazing! In this age of "cookie cutter rigs" that is insane!

The upper is also custom or just a BJ one? Can't wait to see it run!

How's the hardware?

Very nice Shelby! Glad you could put the slug retainers to use. I will see what I can do for the XR with front cases. I'm also working on a design that will require no screws to remove the slugs (snap ring style, like my SLW slug retainers).
