6 or 8 wheel drive? Solid vs Indy?

Not sure whether to post this in scalers or not, I figure Newbie is best since that's where I'm sitting. I'm looking at doing an 8 wheel drive scaler LAV

The LAV is an 8 wheel independent suspension vehicle, but the only way that I can figure to do that is with 4 Tamiya Twin Detonator (Wild Dagger, Double Blaze) gearboxes, which would have motor clearance issues would leave the wheels way too far apart:

I could fake it with solid axles. I've done a bunch of searching, but is the TLT axle the only one suited to more than one axle off the tranny? Has anyone modded an AX-10 or WK (or taken a good hard look at one with that thought in mind) for axles in series, or can anyone suggest an alternative gearbox that might work?

What scale are you going for?
You could try using t/e maxx differentials w/ 2 trannies and custom made a arms.

Set the trannies side by side and stagered for side clearance. The drive shafts wouldn't be a problem cause the diff's would be "set" with no movement. Wire the motor in parallel with one ESC. It also looks like only the front tires turn so that shouldn't be a problem.

another thing I could think of is using the rear's of a buggy like a XXX or something. But then your running 4 motors and will have to figure something for the steering.

or 4 clod axles. (solid though)

TLT's and King Hauler axle's are similar and why you can use the out put gear to another axle. But that is also solid axle.

EDIT: something kinda like this?

Hey Lav25 that sounds like a cool build. I was thinking what about something like this. Motor position would vary depending on drive train used but concept would similiar.

I have been wanting to build a US Marine pirahna, especially after seeing this one. I was thinking 3 clod axles, but not sure on tire size. Ideally TLT axles with a semi axle for the center one or center two axles. All depends on how many axles you want to use.

This one is a r/c version that shoots water up to 15 feet.

Thanks to all for the tips and suggestions, I'm not sure what scale I'm going for actually, since that will be pretty dependent on what I can rig up as far as the drivetrain. Kind of working from the wheel positions upwards actually. Anyway, I'll be sure to post if and when I make any progress on this.

A few hours of searching, and it looks like the best bet might be Maxx diffs and arms running two motors, something like this (sorry for the sloppy Paint diagram):

Any comments or suggestions would be more than welcome, especially the sort that say "Yeah, but you're gonna have a world of problems with _____"

Thanks in advance

...and I just realized that that is pretty much exactly what DoubleJ posted, now that I understand what I'm looking at.....gotta design sober some day....

I'd buy 2 Sets of HPI RS4 front and rear end diff assemblies and Then you have 3 choices of width. They have the RS4 Evo3 which is about 200 mm wide, then you have the Super nitro which would give you a 300 width, and the MT2 which I dont know how wide that is, but they are each a different width so depending on what scale you want you can choose from there. As for a tranny You can pick out 2 WK ones and make super short driveshafts
