I'm shopping for an airbrush to paint my next crawler body. Suggestions? I've been eyeballing the Iwata HP-CS. I'm viewing this as a long term investment, so I don't want junk. Also, I'm planning to buy a 20ish gallon compressor to run it (and some air tools). Any reason this is a bad idea? Anything else I need to pick up while I'm buying stuff?

Make sure you get a airfilter and water separator. Humid air under compression will create water drops and one spit, there goes your paintjob.

I don't think you can go wrong with an Iwata.Make sure to get a good regulator and moisture trap.

yup eclipse hp-cs will give you everything you need and then some! you can spray anything from water colors to urethanes. and bonus it has cheap parts a needle is 7 -10 bucks and the nozzle is 15

compressor supply, i try to find one of the quiet ones cause when your painting for extened period of times the sound can get real bad, plus it take you out of your paint "zen"

Well I got to say for one I would definately go with the iwata since it is a common airbrush, Look into the Richpen Apollo 113c design as well, they are great brushes. Another brush that is affordable to look at is Air Pro Tools PS850 and PS900 very affordable and yet a really good brush for the money, plus if you hit buy it now for the ebay listing youll get a decent hose with it. You can find them on ebay but thay also have home company if you would rather get them that way and either way they are the same price. Ai Pro Tools makes alot of garage tools and they are out of Utah.

Bearair is a great place to buy stuff from if you want to go online. If you happen to have a Hobby Lobby near you, you can get the aIwata airbrush from them and they also sell parts for it.

As far as a compressor goes. A 2 gallon should do nice. Just be sure to look for one that has an adjustable P.S.I. along with meters. Husky makea great one for $68.95 and it comes with a nailer. Just get yourself a nice littlescrew in moisture trap and a decent hose and your set. Those pancake comprssors are nice too. If you want you can ask to try them and see what is the least noisy and that usually helps in my thoughts.

Oh husky can be purchased at any home depot. Hope that helped.

Iwata Revolution CR is all you will ever need in painting RC bodies...
I buy from Coast Airbrush, great customer service and free shipping on any Iwata brush...

I have an Iwata High Performance HP-B & HP-C, both bought on ebay for half the price of retail, and very nice. I also grabbed am Eclipse HP-BCS bottom feed with the Smart Jet compressor for a whopping $120 shipped..Yeah, that one went way under the radar since the compressor alone usually fetches around $160 or more...I also deal with a place here called airbrush depot and they are pretty good. I started with a Badger Anthem 155 and a Paasche VL, but found the Iwata to be a much nicer brush and worth every penny...Good luck bro, the Air Pro Tools brushes look like straight knock offs of Iwata, so for $40, you probably can't go wrong trying them...

i have all iwata kustoms but any are good, make sure to get the right needle size for what you want, if your doing custom detailing get a small needle, but if your just going to mask stuff of and use it to do a little shading you could go a little bigger. as far as where to buy, shop around and look for the cheapest on the net, google it

the revolution is a great brush if al you plan on spraying is waterbased and other "softer paints" the eclipse with its teflon seals will last longer and you'll get better detail out of the dual tip design, basically a brass nozzle with a stainless steel mini nozzle threaded on to the tip, this gives yout eh ability to spray the thick tshirt paint and still have the ability to get fine hair lines. the revolution lacks the steel tip (im prety sure) and so you have to buy nozzles more often with the revoultion

the rev is all you need for airbrushing r/c stuff (unless you want to spray real house of kolors or automotive paints and clear)

the eclipse is all youll ever need.... well until you want to do fine canvas work and micro sized images then the micron and hp-c is what youd want to look into

eclipse has two nozzle sizes availible .5 and .35 .5 will spray thick stuff better and te .35 will perform better with kustom kolor spaz house of kolor and all other auto paints, oh and pactra's acrylic

if it was me and i was just getting into painting again. mind you its been nearly 10 years since i picked up my first brush. id deffinitly go with the eclipse .35 and i tell you what if it was still on one peice id be using it today

I would have to say the Iwata is it. I've used many airbrushes over the 17+ years I've been airbrushing RC bodies and it's the best one I've used.
