Airtronics radio any good??

That is an awesome radio. But, the 3rd channel is only 2-position meaning if you run a dig setup later on, it will only engage 4WD or lockout the rear driveshaft; no rear freewheel. There is an article on how to modify the FM version of the MX-3 for 3-position 3rd channel but I'm not sure if that will apply to the FHSS version. I do remember seeing a thread in here asking about modifying the FHSS version, so I would look for that.

A very popular radio right now is the Spektrum DX3R that requires no modifications, but it's double the price. You can find them gently used for around $230; I found one for $200 that was almost brand new.

Something else to consider is that Airtronics FHSS is not compatible with Spektrum. Spektrum is more popular and you can find standard Spektrum receivers used for around $50 whereas Airtronics stuff is a little harder to find on the second hand market and is generally more expensive in general.

Do a search for "fhss" in this forum; lots of information.

If you don't mind running a stick radio Airtronics has their RDS8000 8 channel radio for about $200 and that includes two receivers. It is FHSS so it is ground legal and fully programable for anything you would want from crawlers to helis. I believe you can even special order it with the left hand/throttle stick with spring setting to return to center.

I have the mx-3fhss (airtronics) and I do like it but... It dosent have a way to lock it to your epa after you dial it in. If you dont set your menu back to battery, and hit your increase or decrease buttons your end point adjustments will be changed and can ruin a good servo quick (like my dig servo):x

I used the same radio without 2.4 specktrum and it worked really nice for me for a long time the 2 position switch didn't allow me to free wheel I was either in gear or locked out but it got the job done nicely. If you can find another buck fifty you could get a DX3R then you'd be set.
