Another (better?) way to mount the battery?

I've seen several of the builds here, but haven't seen the battery tray/RX box mounted this way.

I moved the RX box to the innermost rear crossmember and mounted the battery cradle and tray directly to the front crossmembers. Uses all stock holes, the only down side is that the RX box is held on with only two screws into the crossmember instead of having the two additional screws on the mounts that are keyed to the frame. Considering how little weight there is there, it should be fine. Some Shoo-Goo can be used to seal the extra two screw holes.

Could also flip the rear crossmember and trim off the loop on the rear-most crossmember and attach the RX box just in front of the bumper if you wanted it to look like a scale fuel tank. ;)

Anyway, hadn't seen one configured this way, thought I'd share.

Hey Jason I think its a great idea! I might just do that to mine...when it arrives...I really like the fuel tank look.

One note though...is it possible to avoid cutting that loop in the back by adding enough spacers so that the RX box is high enough to sit on top of that loop for extra support?

could you flip the electronics box around so the sloped edge faces the rear to possibly avoid hang-ups?

Nice Job JIA. Mine is similar only I didn't move the receiver box and your rear batter position is lower. "thumbsup"

Like your idea with the battery! I was helping a friend put his kit together last night and was thinking of the same thing with the reciever box.

Mine is set up almost that way, except my reciever box is in front of the shock tower brace.

I'd put it in the back, but i shortened the frame to compensate for a hard body i'm fitting up.

I wanted to put electronics box in the back too, but my steering servo wire wasnt long enough.
Can a person buy extensions?

I also couldnt use the stock box, had to modify a traxxas box to fit. TQ3 reciever does not fit the stock box.

Stock box looks cool as a sim fuel tank!

yeah you can buy extensions. online obviously, and at your LHS. they will be with servo's and such, but will probibly be with the air servos, since they need much more wire. I think there like $3.00 at my LHS.

What about battery mounted across the chassis just ahead of the rear shock tower,,Im thinkin this for a 7.4 v lipo
With a little wheel weight on the front rims,,,thinking 50/50 load balance F/R for my Trail rig,,,,

If this doesn't work out the way I want I'll mount the battery like I do on the X-trail and K2 series...across the frame behind the rear axle.

The SCX frame does have a close resemblance to a X-trail.

i likey

picked up the kit on friday for a weekend project. prior to buying the kit i was wondering wether or not id be able to mount the battery in the front of the chasiss to get the cg closer to the front to somewhat mimic the weight distribution of a 1:1 truck.

basically use the weight of the battery as a faux engine

that was a great idea, by accident i already started putting the battery plate on the front, with a couple small spacers, it worked great, then i was also thinking about where to put the receiver box when i read your post, so i went with that, but instead of cutting the battery mount out, i trimmed the sides, sanded the back, and flipped it over, so i ended up with what looks to be a gas tank, and now also has a trailer hitch, havent finished up all the trimming yet, but heres the pics of it so far;

I'm trying to put my electronics in the back but my darn servo wire is too short! So I need to look for some extension wires.

love the rear gastank idea man!
im doing this right now, sweet! "thumbsup"

SELF-EDIT:
Heres the results...
Turned the rear brace around and mounted the radio-box into the rear of the frame. Filled it with BB pellets and enclosed it. Ill buy another radio-box for the front unless i come up with some other idea to mount all my hardware up front?
