Just got a new R2D trans and I was wondering what size of pinion is popular to run. It came with an 8t, but I have heard that the trans is very low geared.
Also will a standard 44oz. servo on 6 volts operate the disconnect?

I run the 8t on my goat and like it. It is very good low end and good wheel speed (which I really like). some people use a micro servo so I would say it would work.

I run a 13T pinion on a 55t handwound on 3cell lipo or 10 cell 2/3A packs, and that gives me the wheelspeed to bump or dig when I need to.

I run a 11tooth with a crawlmaster and 3cell lipo in my 2.2 rig. Plenty of snot and enough wheelspeed to do digs and bomb up long slick rock climbs"thumbsup"

I ran an 18t pinion on a crawlmaster on 8 cells and it was nice. More is always better though.

I personally feel you'll need a touch more servo to run the dig. Might get it to work though.

For me the 8t doesn't produce enough wheel speed, try 12t or larger, see what works for your driving style. Also I would try using a servo with a little more torque, I had problems using a cheesy servo, I actually installed a HiTec 5955TG, overkill I know, but it works every time, installed a servo saver on it to prevent stressing the servo mount etc.
