Any houston guys?

Went to the Pasadena comp spot today (Bay Area rc plane field), didn't see a rock course at all?!?

Wes, sorry about that. The land was sold to developers and we had to pack up our stuff and leave. Currently the rocks are split between Mike's house and Ken's workshop.

Oh ok, man, I was confused!

Well dang. Gotta find a place that will stick around!! A local city park type area would be ideal but then you have to deal with local govt.

Another option that could possibly be explored. There is a large paintball field on Dixie Farm road and Blackhawk down in the Pearland/Friendswood area. I dont know if the guy that runs that owns the land, but if so maybe for a very small fee (entrance fee they would charge paintball guys) they would allow a course to be set up?

Trying to brainstorm here!

I think that's a good idea. I'm willing to pitch in on the build if he goes for it. And from what I've been hearing Ken is planning on building a rock crawling course behind the LHS on Spencer across from San Jacinto. Same goes for that, I'd be willing to contribute however I can to see it happen and actually stick around. Is Ken on RCC?

Is Ken on RCC?

No he is not. But he is a regular at our comps.

We have access to a good selection of rocks (my parents live in the hill country where they pay people to haul rocks from their property...and they are always happy to see us show up and take some)....but finding a permanent spot has been difficult. Moving the rocks two times now has taken it's toll on us....

I have a trailer that can be used anytime it is needed, 6x10 with a wood floor and ramp

Like knobs said above, Im willing to help as I can.

Wes

If I had a bigger yard I wouldn't be opposed to it being here. Maybe as a club we could all pitch in and rent a small venue where we could build our track as we please. That would be freakin badass!

I think another thing we can do is contact the different parks and recreation entities, drainage districts, etc to see if we can team up and put a course in a park where we know it would stay and offer to do a service such as a trash cleanup when we are there as a group for a comp, etc.

I think even contacting Texas parks and wildlife about possibly even bayou bend in Rosenberg may be a decent thing to try. It's worth a shot! With the success the east Texas guys are having with the group at Barnwell, maybe we can get some tips/tricks on how they have done it and had success and then use those to contact some of these land owners, etc.

Now that my friend, is a great idea."thumbsup" I'm game.

I'll start a new thread tomorrow to plan and who is going to contact which places and what not. I'll also message some of the east Texas crew and ask them how they had success at Barnwell to clue is all in.

Wes

Barnwell is owned by the TMTC. I am sure they just contacted the management. I am not sure who runs that place now, but when I used to go there a lot to wheel my 1:1, Clyde was always on site...

I have three trailers 6x10 steel floor mesh sides, 6.5x16 wood floor mesh sides, 6x20 steel floor and sides Gooseneck. Just let me know what you need about 1 week before.

Once we decide on a place, the current rocks will need to be lifted by equipment. They range from 200lb to 1500lb. That's great to hear about y'all willing to help.

I know some people in the equipment rental business as well to get steep discounts/free.

finding a place is the hard part

Wes

Sounds like some great Ideas poppin up in down to help too as all my weekends have freed up. Got a new better job

Sorry, I was in a training yesterday and didn't start a new thread. I'll try to get that done today so we can start organizing a mass list of places to try ro get a course set up.

Wes

Cypress here, checking in. The Faukley gully, where it goes underneath Louetta close to Malcomson looks like it might be a decent spot to crawl. It's right off the Harris County hike and bike trail too. Lots of rocks and mud. I'll take a closer look if anyone is interested. Could take some pictures too.
