Anyone seen the battery operated soldering iron called Cold Heat? I saw it advertised on Comedy Central and I'm usually skeptical of the TV ads where they include something for free, but I thought it was worth asking. Here's a link:

It heats up when the tip contacts metal and then cools down. Anyone used one, heard more about it that kind of thing? For $20, if it works, that'd be awesome for me up at college.

It came up on URC just the other day, the general consensus was don't waste your $20. Apparently they make the thing heat up by shorting out the batteries, so their charge is wasted pretty quick. People also said it doesn't get hot enough, so I say just go with a $14 Weller 40 watt (hits 900* easy) instead.

I got one. No good. If it did what it said it would, it'd be awesome. But its impossible to get it to work right.

I agree with the above, 40w weller, best bang for the buck :)
