Anyone else falling apart?

Wow, you guys make me feel young again.

Just had my left hip replaced in May... at age 35  Moral of the story? Don't get ran over by a car when your 17 :ror: My left knee will probably need replacing at some point, but after watching people in rehab with new knees, I'll think really hard before I actually do it. As for your hand surgery, that scares the hell outta me. I play and have fought carpal tunnel issues in both hands. Doc says surgery and I keep putting it off because I'm afraid I may not be able to play afterwards.

Yep, that one worries me. The joint at the end of the finger can be fused on my right hand (index is already done), it seems to make my finger picking better, but not my left or I would have to master the slide.

does a 10 hour brain surgery to remove a benign tumor count, if so i'm in "thumbsup" ........bob

....

Umm, yes sir.

I'm sitting in the hospital right now recovering from knee surgery this morning. I've always been really bowlegged and have had some knee pain for the last few years (I'm 43). I had an opening wedge tibial osteotomy. Basically they straightened my leg by sawing 3/4 through my tibia just below my knee, jacked it open, inserted a cadaver bone wedge to fill in the gap and screwed a plate over it all to hold things together. I had the right one done on October 12th and has the left one done today. It moves my knee in and repositions the contact points to the outside of my knee where there is virtually no wear. These are the only surgeries I've ever had, but it does feel that since I turned 40 things have been breaking down a bit faster than I'd like.

I saw that you were having surgery but didn't what type. I am surprised you don't have wear on your hips too. But for sure, good luck on your recovery.

10 Months ago at age 37 Herniated disc surgery. This cold winter is kicking my ASS

How did that go Cory? I am very leery of that surgery but I have 2 herniated and one that is close.

had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder,my tail bone is fused together in 3 spots,2 deteriorating discs in my neck and they want to fix them but told them not until i cant take it any more. it causes my arm go to numb when ever. all before the age 40.

I'm getting off lucky.....especially compared to quite a few here.

Basic dislocation of left knee, dislocation of left elbow, broken back (compression fracture of T-10).

All separate occurrences.

I have to keep my back warm or it tightens up and I'm flat on my back for a few days minimum. Cold damp days suck.

Lots of sprains, cuts & stitches.

I know my back is going to get bad down the road (the further down the road, the better).

Yeah, I did stupid stuff when I was a kid but lucked out and didn't get the breaks, etc. that others received. This includes dirt bikes, BMX (back when it wasn't called BMX) and other things.

I eat Advil like they were M&M's....yes, I know that has it's own issues as well.

To those that are looking at knee replacements, my mom had hers done (@ ~73 years old) and she did well. Yes, it's some work but actually wasn't as bad as any of us thought it would be.

PS, Del Montess, "Yes, it gets better as you age!"

No broken bones! I do have Narcolepsy with Cataplexy, along with Chiari malformation type 1....
So basically I'm a professional sleeper with a longer brain stem! Life could be worse!

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis...Had my first surgery at 12, was basically the same surgery as a c-section, but they took stuff out of my ovaries instead of my uterus. Second surgery at 15 for cysts again, discovered the endometriosis (inner lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus and is a bitch), third surgery on winter break of nursing school in 08 (finished my last final thursday afternoon, surgery thursday night so i'd have the whole month to recover and be good to go when school started back up). Had to go on an education plan in high school for health issues because i missed so much due to chronic, intractable abdominal pain from the cysts and endo. Been on homronal therapy (birth control) since i was 12 to try to control it.

Had traumatic hearing loss and continuing issues from it when i was 15 because a bitch in marching band blasted a trombone directly into my ear.

Have a heart murmur with annoying palpitations that i flaked on getting checked out because im a terrible patient.

Am currently recovering from the second time breaking my right ankle and am facing surgery to fix it... (sprained both ankles many, many times, so the ligaments are all jacked)

And im 24, from what i hear it just gets better, right?? Someone tell me it gets better as i age!

Dang i have heard WAR stories that sound like a walk in the park in comparison .....
damn Jess.......... I hope you get some luck and get the ankle fixed up soon "thumbsup"

I've always played things pretty safe unless strapped into a rig with a roll cage so I don't have nearly the broken bone war stories most of you have.

Busted both hands once a piece and my right big toe when I was in elementary school. Otherwise things are just starting to show wear. My knees hurt all day every day, my back is tight in the am etc.

Being a fat bastard hasn't helped so here we are less than a month after my 35th birthday I'm finally getting serious about losing a major amount of weight. I've got a large frame so dropping 150 lbs would be about right.

I believe it's called a misspent youth!
I too have a number of health issues, mainly osteo arthritis. Had surgery on my right knee in August, (didn't help much) the Doc told me he was surprised at the damage he found that didn't show up on the any of the MRI's, pot holes in my cartilige, torn meniscus, arthritis ect. my left hip and lower back also have problems from arthritis , radicular neuropothy, my hands are also a little messed up. But worst of all, the various meds and stuff have screwed up my digestive system, now I can only take a pain pill when I have no other choice, Nsaids (antiinflamation meds) are a no no, they cause severe diverticulitis flare ups.
So now, I'm forced to hobble around with a cane, because the knee locks up or collapses, the hip and lower back also cause problems when walking and sitting for too long. I'm a wreck! LOL!

I really feel for you. My wife fought endo for years and finally had a complete hysterectomy about 2 months ago. So far so good.

I had carpal tunnel really bad in both hands... Had a great doctor that took care of me.. Two surgeries a month apart.. About 6-8 months later the nerves healed and my hands feel great. I can ride my ATV without aching pain, can drive for hours with no numbness.. As long as you get it fixed before the nerve damage is permanent, you should be able to do anything a normal person your age is capable of.

Yep. I'm well on my way to being a "kit". I was a rtr though. I was shot twice in the hip, left shoulder collapsed, and knee/shin shattered. At the age of 23...hip, shoulder, knee and shin all have rods, netting, pins bolts and other things. I feel like I'm falling apart. Winters are rough, stairs suck. Elevators and the beach rule.

Yep, been falling apart for sometime now. Ruptured my achilles in my left leg up where it meets the calf 4 years ago. Now I have a "manly" leg and a "girly" leg, I lost about 1/2 the muscle mass, fell 1 1/2 stories off a ladder and landed on my shoulder blade and blew it out and had a 3rd degree sepreration of my left shoulder. Now I have artificial ligaments and tendons and some dead guys parts holding that together. I still enjoy being on the rocks but I am hutring an a hot mess the next day.

Dang, you guys are all messed up! I'm home from the hospital and my knee surgery went well. Time to watch lots a tv for the next 3 weeks. I surprisingly haven't had any hip or ankle/foot issues. Just need to get these knees healed up, I'm already going through scale comp withdrawals and I've only missed 3 of them........

I'm blind in my left eye from a child hood injury, 2 hernia repairs, one done by the Navy and then it was repaired again a few years after being discharged. The Surgeon that fixed me the 2nd time asked if I was operated on in a 2nd world country, that really made me feel good.

A few years ago, I severed my right bicep tendon, it took surgery to repair that injury. I also had a cyst removed from my left wrist a few years ago. I've had the constant battle w/ asthma. I have a large heel spur on both of my feet, I can't walk without the orthodic inserts for my shoes. I'm starting to develop arthritis in my knees. I feel like I'm 200 years old.
