are you locking both axles or leaving front unlocked for better steering?

Hey guys I was wondering I locked both front and rear axles on my wk crawler and I am running a hitec 645mg servo but it doesn't seem to be getting the steering throw I was hoping I do have an ota set up and I am not using a servo saver.So my question is would it steer a little better if the front axle was not locked but then I am sure it wouldn't climb as well either so any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Here is my set up
stock chasis for now
ota steering with an hs645 mg servo
both axles locked with jb weld
stock tranny geared 96/14
12.5 wb
axial shocks w/ stock springs
lrp esc with 55 t integy
2.2 moabs
t-maxx driveshafts cut down
tq 3 radio and reciever
running a cheap 1600 and 2000 battery for now I know not much power

I am fully locked with no loss of steering that I noticed. You might want to get a longer servo arm, that might be the problem.

Seriously, fully locked is the way to stay.

A better servo with greater torque would aid your steering. Some $100 servo like a 5955tg or a JR9100T or otherwise would provide aid.

I have a WK rig with 2.2 Crushers, running 6oz in each wheel with the battery up front and only a $10 Tower Pro servo and it's turning my wheels fine.

The loss of steering is not related to the servo or steering setup, it's a larger turning circle caused by the lack of a diff in the axle which forces both wheels to spin the same speed. This means on a constant turn the truck won't turn anywhere near as tight, even with the same steering throw. I don't think it's a major issue on a crawler as you mostly move in small hops and creeps, but on a rock racer or a basher, where you are ramming about at high speed some of the time, it could cause you a bit of frustration.

Do you have full lock-to-lock steering throw with the wheels off the ground? That might help pinpoint the problem better.

It does seem to have full lock when off the ground my steering link from the servo to the knuckle is going from what would be the passenger side to the driverside if looking at it from the front would it help if I set it up with a shorter link instead.This is my first build so still learning and tinkering over all pretty happy with the overall build it is just the lack of steering is a little frusterating.I have not got a chance to go to a gtg or comp yet so I have not really seen other trucks on the rocks yet to see how they work.Thanks guys for all the help
