Ascender with Tamiya Bronco body

OK. I am new here and have a few questions. Currently have an Ascender and not a Chevy fan. I do have a 1:1 bronco and would like to build a scale one. I have cut the chassis down 1/2 inch and might need to do another 1/2. Haven't decided yet. The question I have is can I rotate the spindle carrier on the housing when I cut it down. This would allow me to rotate the axle up some to reduce the drive angle without changing the castor. As I am new to this and no expert, does this make sense?

Dont have a great answer to your question but what wheels/tires are those if you dont mind?

The hub carriers are held onto the axle with 2 screws. If you want to rotate the axle then you need to redrill the holes in the axle housing. You might need to change the link lengths as well.

As far as pinion angle, you cannot adjust the pinion angle in relation to the axle itself, only rotate the entire axle with different link lengths. it's a balance between caster and pinion angle.

I did the same, and in the thread below, once i got the pinion angle where I wanted it, I removed, redrilled, and rotated the C hubs on the front axle to correct the caster. It was very bad at first, but about 20 minutes of work and it was perfect. just be sure to make sure all your links are clear - If i rotated the caster angle too far back, I ran into issues with panhard/steering link clearance.

Hope that answers your question

I build one with a Pro-line Bronco body, no chassis trimming needed. Quite a bit bigger than the Tamiya body. Came out great

Here is a picture of the shortened chassis. I have shortened the front lower links. You can see the rear is still off and if I bend the rear links the rear shocks will be even less perpendicular than they are now. Does anyone see issues with the shocks pulled slightly forward at the bottom?

Other than any aesthetic concerns, no - should work fine.

I do see shorter shocks in your future, those are some pretty steep driveshaft angles.

My plan is to make it look as scale as my abilities will allow. I just picked up some 1.55 wheels and tires from a member on the classifieds. I am also working on some 90mm shocks. Codyboy is sending me a piece of stainless so I can relocate the motor. I have aspirations of a full interior but that will have to wait cause I want to go play with this for a while. Once I get the bugs worked out I will attempt some styrene work. I will post my progress. It will be slow. 3 kids playing sports slows me a bit.

This is the result. Used the short vaterra links on the rear and made front links from all thread with aluminum sleeves. 10 inch WB.

Test fitted body at ride height for the first time. Looks like I will need to shorten WB by another 8-10mm for it to be correct.

Sitting to high. I am going to track down some 100 mm shocks.

Those look nice Cary, I think you will really like them. If your thinking of comping with this rig, be careful not to get that wheel base to short, it will effect how well it climbs. "thumbsup"
