Since you're saying rocks then I assume you care more about performance than scale looks or trail features. In that case, I'd honestly say stick with Vanquish then. The Axial Coyote looks decent, but I have very little interest in Axial these days because the quality just isn't up to par with other brands IMO. And that brand has become stale. Do you have any interest in building a kit? For a lot of us, that's the most fun part. The VRD Carbon is the best bang for your buck IMO and the Mullet also looks great.
Thanks for the advice. To keep things simple while figuring out this hobby and how serious or casual it will be for me, I decided to stick with a ready to run Vanquish Phoenix rather than diving straight into the kits.

Great choice!

Whats good folks? Im Doug from NEPA. I'm crawlin' :ROFLMAO: back into the 1/10 game after 6 years and starting from scratch. And with a new account since who knows what my old login was. Shoutout to AnimalHippie if hes still around.

Im dying to get back out there with the local club now that my kids are a bit older but Im currently in choice paralysis on the best route to not waste money building a new rig. Start small or go big...sooo many spread sheets, haha. I like the scale aspect of things, but I think I would rate performance slightly higher. That being said, Im kind of set on a hard body(which contradicts my performance statement, I know).

Im really leaning towards a VRD Carbon Kit to offset the hardbody weight. Fusion SE 1800kv. NSDRC RX800 v2. Injora INT-T6M TX/RX. But theres also the VS4-10 portal kit, or maybe just grabbing a TRX Sport or Basecamp and building up?

Anyway, Ive missed this hobby and I'm going to blow money either way.

Keep er rubber side down boys and girls.

Welcome to the site from SEPA! Welcome back to crawlin'!

@AnimalHippie was online today.

Do you really need a hard body? If so then not sure the VRD Carbon will benefit you, but it is an excellent kit. I'd say go with the VS4-10 if you insist on a hard body, but that's just me.

The TRX-4 Sport isn't as good in performance. The full-fledged TRX-4 with 2-speed transmission and remote locking diffs is the most fun trail rig out there. It is built like a tank which makes it heavy though and that hinders performance some. But it's an excellent choice.

If you like Jeeps and have a 3D printer, Project IJ is awesome! It's a 3D printed Wrangler body and most people seem to be putting it on the VS4-10.

I'd skip Axial for now personally. I think Vanquish and Traxxas are much higher quality.

Do I need a hardbody? Nah, I guess its just preference for looks(any maybe related to my cutting and painting abilities, lol) but unfortunately no 3D printer on hand to go that route. So thought process here is go lexan on a Carbon and hard body on the VS4-10. I guess finding that balance of scale looks and performance is tougher than I thought.

SEPA you say? You roll around with Eastern PA RC Crawler guys?

Good plan then - VRD Carbon with Lexan and a VS4-10 with a hard body. I think you'll love either rig.

Nah. I was never a comp guy. I think the one member went on a trail run with us once or twice, but that's it.

Hi all.

I'm Zach. I got away from the r/c stuff years ago,but my coworker picked up an 18th scale FMS, next thing you know I'm getting a Traxxas trx4m. Changed jobs, quite a few of my new coworkers have r/c stuff. Then I got a HPI venture wayfinder. (peer pressure, don'tcha know). Went to Hobbytown to get a light bar, left with a light bar and an scx30. I may have a problem. 😂

Hi Zach! Welcome to the site! And welcome back to RC. Scale crawling is the most addicting form of RC I've ever been a part of!

Hey all! I have been a member here since 2005 and kind of fell out of the hobby around 2010 or so. I've recently been looking to get back into the hobby, I still have most of my old R/C's from back then but I'm finding no one really runs nitro or the categories my other R/C's fall in to anymore and there's no tracks near me. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on nitro or batteries for cars that I have no where to run. I'm thinking about trading/selling a few of my older models for something new and electric because I live in the dead center of town and it would be more convenient. I've never had a crawler but I had always wanted to build up a TXT back in the day. I've been looking at the SCX10 iii Coyote the last couple days, it looks pretty solid and RTR to get started. Any other advise you can offer, I'm all ears! I was impressed that this forum is still active after all these years so I went ahead and upgraded my membership :)

Welcome back! The Coyote does seem like a pretty cool rig. That or the Vanquish Stance would be the two performance RTR's I'd choose from. Or have the most fun and build a kit!
