AX10 Body Mounts (Kydex) how-to

So, as the story goes....
I have been an RC veteran for some time now, but my Son is now old enough at 5yrs to find an interest in the hobby. I was very picky in finding him something geared for his age and speed, could take a moderate beating and would be hard pressed to get hung up... so naturally a rock crawler made the most sense.

I ended up getting him a RTC AX10, but wasn't pleased with the looks of the shell.
Bought an HPI bronco body and painted it up for him, then found out there was virtually no way to mount the thing without buying some specialty parts unfortunately.

So being into the custom paintball and real gun work, I happened to have just the ticket to make some of my own.
(Kydex)
For those not familiar with Kydex I will fill you in...
It is a thermo form composite, used for all sorts of things, such as aircraft interior, counter top laminate, to knife and gun holsters.
In my case I used Kydex 100, from which I mold holsters for pistols.
You can get the stuff in just about any size and thickness sheets, many colors including camo and carbon fiber.
Once molded it will hold its shape strength amazingly well and extremely durable. It has a textured top surface and a silk smooth bottom a lot like delrin, since it has a similar impregnated Teflon for wear resistance.

As farther note, I plan to take this farther by making a bottom pan and interior just to show how versatile this material is.

More on Kydex
And where to get it> Buy Kydex

Anyhow onward>

Here is a holster setup I created with Kydex 100 for the Tiberious T8 pistol, making it the first and still the only truly functional kydex holster designed from the ground up for the paintball market.
Have sold lots of these due to superior performance allowed by kydex.

The first set of pics is of the rough cut out, which I patterned with a piece of stiff paper.
As the photos progress you will see that I had spot heated the material with a heat gun and made my 90 degree bends.

This set shows the kydex body mounts and 3 link plates mounted, then with the body on.

Thanks man, its all I could come up with in a rush. I need to figure something better with the batteries, but it got it running anyhow.
Might do some more work with the kydex to make a snap in setup for a battery tray.

Yeah thats not a bad idea. I might try and figure something out using that tray.
I was originally going to mount the two split cells on both outer sides of the chassis to lower the CG, so I am still pondering that idea also. I don't intend to compete with this thing as for one reason its my Son's truck, so only scaler type bodies will be used.
With that being said, they are wide enough to hide the cells on the outer frame and causing hang ups shouldn't be to much an issue I hope.

too much work

Wow not to be rude but you were thinking way too hard on that one. Axial has side body mounts. I think that they even come with the ruck my sons ax10 did all you do is screw them into some holes that are on the side of the frame and the body posts mount to the side of the body below the windows. I put a proline f350 body for a tmaxx on my son's ax10 took me 3 mins to mount it. The side body mounts are universal mounts so that you can mount any body on an ax10 if you didn't get them with the truck hobby shops carry spare mounts for like 9 bucks.

thats true but unless you use verticle mounts, a "scale" body moves around too much the sides of the body are usually not rigid enough to hold the body giving a bobble head effect. Right Reed? haha

That and scale trucks look like ass with body posts poking out the sides.
