Is it necessary to connect the servo and throttle wires to activate the AUX channels? I'm trying to test some led lights with just the battery connected, and only the the bottom left AUX is functional. I don't have all the parts here to connect properly now..

No, you just need the esc plugged into the receiver to supply power

Dang! I have it directly connected to the battery. Might be something wrong with the circuit board then :/
