This Axial SCX6 has been in the fleet for a couple years now and owes its existence to my son Gavin of Ayala Metal Works. It seems to break something every time it gets brought out to a crawl spot. It's large, bulky, and heavy IMO, I just prefer 1:10 size myself. With that said, this SCX6 has received some R&D during it's time which is why it has the aluminum upgrades. As a manufacturer in the hobby, I have had serious doubt about large scale RC in the hobby. The higher cost, the lack of aftermarket support, storage space, and inferior designs from the manufacturer producing weak products. It is why Crawler Innovations has not produced a SCX6 specific tire foam insert. CI has been re-machining existing inventory to work.

The weather this past Saturday was excellent in East Texas and a few guys met for a day of friendship and rc rock crawling. Gavin decided to take out the SCX6. Fortunately the Spektrum steering servo that came with the vehicle, stopped working at the shop before we had left for the crawl spot at the local water tower. Per usual, I had Hitec stock on hand and provided Gavin with a D845WP Hitec servo. The only modification needed for installation was removal of the 45* angle tab on each side of the servo mountings, and trimming of the scale engine cover and receiver box. The D845WP steers the very heavy SCX6 with authority! Absolutely no comparison in quality, feel, and performance over the stock Spektrum servo! I was so impressed and grateful for the performance improvement I wanted to share our experience.

It is a candid view on the scx6. It is a expensive kit and every modification is more expensive that on 1/10s . I have a buddy who sell these and costumers complained about costs, specially electronics. I'm in favor of bigger is better but I've trailed alongside one and I was expecting a more capable rig

I have one of those HiTec Servos and was wondering how it would perform!
I had originally purchased this Hitec D845WP for a Monster Truck project, and when the servo arrived I was surprised by its huge size. It was much too large for the MT project and put into stock at CI. I'm thankful it was on hand for this SCX6 project and has made such a large improvement. The next servo to replace is the spektrum shift servo, because it stopped working during the first run with the new Hitec steering servo. The shift servo will get a new Hitec servo, although I'm not sure which P/N yet. I'll update the thread once that is done.

I agree with you about the durability, quality, and capability of the SCX6. CI has owned this rig two years now, and I still don't feel like it's properly sorted out to have the confidence to take it on a long hike or travel with it to a get together. To me, it seems like it breaks something every battery pack, and it still hasn't reached a high performance plateau. 1:10 sizing seems to be the best fit for me.
