I went on a little trail and crawl today with my TRX-4 using the build I have which I’ll list below with the intention of testing out my Badlands 2.8 tires since they’re almost the same size. The outcome? The Badlands performed just as well as the Hyrax 1.9’s in every scenario including the rocks and logs. The only thing the Hyrax does better is a vertical climb on a wooden board but I don’t normally come across that on the trails.. Badlands 2.8 look scale enough to me and are a fraction of the cost of Hyrax 1.9’’s/foams/rims/hubs.
I have Hyrax 2.2’s on Axial Bomber, Yeti, and Wraith and I love them but I think I’ll stick with the Badlands on the TRX-4.

5.79lb + 685grams (24.16oz or 1.51lb)= 7.3lb - 13.76oz(.86lb)+ 7.4oz(.46)= 6.9lb (when I add the 70g diff covers)

VS. Hyrax 1.9’s
Each weighted wheel 68grams (2.4oz)= .6lb
6.9lb+.6lb= 7.5lb
Pro-Line Hyrax 1.9" G8 Rock Terrain Tires
Proline dual stage foams
Gear Head RC 1.9 12-Pack EZ-Loc Wheels, Delrin w/Aluminum Rings (2.4oz) with Gear Head RC 6-Lug Aluminum Hubs, Plus .500

Yes I’m running two glitch busters since I’m not running a BEC on this rig.
I do have UD gears that haven’t installed yet as well as 70g Hot Racing Heavy Brass Differential Covera which will add more weight down low

I have a set of badlands and hyraxs the badlands are awsome on dirt thats why most dirt bikes and quads come with similar tires the hyraxes dont realy shine till you get on to wet rock but they do well on dry rock also and are just as good in the loose dirt they have more surface area than the badlands so they grip better in hard surfaces and they dont ware as fast as the badlands so they last longer so they make a better choice for a trail rig in my opinion anyway

I’ve since switched over to the Hyraxes a couple days or so after I posted the thread. I got bound up on some rocks and ended up rounding out my wheel hexes. Since I had already assembled my Hyraxes with some dual stage foams on Gear Head RC beadlocks I switched over. Not a big deal

I run the badlands on my gofast wraith that almost exclusively runs on a track or snow and ice the hyraxes are on a trail truck the badlands have so much traction on the dirt im breaking wheel hex pins and cvd pins lol oh well

Badlands are probably the best premounted tires ever followed cosely by the MX28’s (depending on driving style). I do prefer Shockeaves on my Revo 3.3 but nothing can beat Mashers on the Traxxas Summit. I have a wide range of RC’s for me and my twin boys and our hybrid trail/crawl rigs all have Hyraxes

Still waiting on my brass diff cover but that will cover it for upgrades.

Here’s the other trail trucks. The Jato, 4-Tec, and Revo .21TM are elsewhere. I really love nitro but they suck on crawling. I really love the Holmes Hobbies Revolver. I have two of them but one isn’t being currently used.

I’m not very good with pics. I can list my upgrades though :-)
