Been a long time since I have been on here, or did anything with my RC's for that matter. Recently got the bug to do a build and I did a quick check of my batteries and they are all shot, old nicad.

So what is the latest and greatest?

TIA Kent

I like my Dynamite Passport Ultra and use SMC batteries... (Although my Ascender is currently set up for Shorty-size packs only and is using a battery also from Dynamite with no issues, getting a BPC or JCAD plate to run full-size soon)

get a charger for lipos with charge, discharge and storage function. you will be impressed how long you can drive with these batteries ( i was :) )
there are many good lipos on the market, cause i live in europe and they are easier to get here i use turnigy or zippy from hobbyking. they are at a good price and are reliable no failure till today (cross fingers it stays like this).

i just purchased the new skyrc d100 v2 charger it's a duo charger (2 channels up to 10A ) with build in bluetooth module to connect with your mobile has all functions needed plus some extras like meassure the internal resistance of the battery. and it's under 100$ 8)

Check out the new chargers from ISDT. There is a post here about them. They look like very high quality chargers for a bargain price. Reviews and tests show they are accurate and powerful. They will; however, require an external power supply. No problem, they are easy to build out of an old hp proliant dps 600pb b power supply. They are only $15 or so each shipped. Batteries, pick a brand and buy some. They are almost all made in china. The "c" rating on them is almost always bunk. I run venom batteries because they stand behind them and warranty them out if I have problems. I use their race drone series. I am also trying out the tattu batteries by gens ace. They were recommended by a drone racer. If he is willing to run them is his several thousand dollar race quads, I can run them in my tiny trucks. Good Luck.

link to build your own power supply. "thumbsup"

I'd recommend SMC or Gens Ace batteries - they're a little more than bargain basement Lipos, but very much worth it. I run them in fast elec boats that use 150A+ and both brands are accurately rated (which is rare).

As far as chargers, many you'll find are copies of the Imax B6 charger. You can get a clone or genuine w/AC power for $25-55. If you already have a DC power supply, the ISDT chargers mentioned above look to be great deals. They have an 8A charger for just $35 which offers 2-3x more charging watts than the old & updated B6 designs. I currently have 2x Dynamite Ultraforce chargers with all the necessary features, but I have an ISDT 500W charger on the way since they're only on sale for only $55.

Also read up on proper charge, discharge (during use), and storage techniques - that is 95% of getting a Lipo to last w/o damage. Basically don't run them below 3.5v and don't keep them stored at full charge for more than a day - this is where discharge and storage modes on a charger help out. You can keep them at 50-70% til you're ready, then charge at 10A+ in a few mins when you're about to bash/race.

I recommend venom lipo batteries and a hitec charger.

Personally I love the batteries I’ve had amazing luck with them since it seems to be a shot in the dark with lipos sometimes they last sometimes they don’t.

Most people will say there garbage but if taken care of properly they seem to last forever.
